When Beyoncé threw a triangle-shaped hand gesture during her Super Bowl halftime performance in 2013, the internet exploded with rumors that it was a sign she was part of the Illuminati. But sorority girls know better. While it is doubtlessly true that Beyoncé does, in fact, run the world, that symbol she was throwing was clearly a Delta.
And my guess is that if that darn microphone wasn’t taking up so much of her finger functioning or she could spontaneously grow a couple extra hands, she would have thrown a full-blown Delta Zeta. I now present to you the infallible, undeniable proof that Queen Bey is a DZ.
The Nicknames
Just like Delta Zeta, Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter goes by many names. Just like when Delta Zeta is thrown around a bit more casually as DZ or Dee Zee, Beyoncé tries to relate to us mere mortals with monikers such as Yoncé, Queen Bey, and of course, Sasha Fierce.
Philanthropy
Both Delta Zeta and Beyoncé believe in giving back. Delta Zeta chapters nationwide raise money for the Starkey Hearing Foundation, Gallaudet University for the Deaf, and the Painted Turtle, a camp for children with chronic illnesses. Beyoncé has her fair share of commitments as well: Feeding America, the Survivor Foundation and CHIME FOR CHANGE, just to name a few.
Triple Threat
Although Beyoncé is primarily known for her soul-wrenchingly beautiful vocal chords, she can also act amazingly well - as demonstrated by her role as Foxxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers - and OBVIOUSLY dance. Delta Zeta is a triple threat as well: Academics, sisterhood and philanthropy.
The F-Word
When founders Alfa Lloyd, Mary Collins, Anna Keen, Julia Bishop, Mabelle Minton and Anne Simmons first formed Delta Zeta at Miami University in 1902, they were met by opposition on the male dominated campus. Miami had just given women full students status in accordance with a state bill mandating coeducation. As stated on Beyoncé’s flawless track “Flawless,” “We teach girls to shrink themselves, to make themselves smaller. We say to girls, ‘You can have ambition, but not too much. You should aim to be successful, but not too successful; otherwise you will threaten the man.’” Delta Zeta has clearly never been afraid to “threaten the man.” Beyoncé is proud to identify as a feminist, and we should be proud too.
Pizza
Of course Queen Bey understands the holy trinity that is cheese, sauce and bread. In 2013 she was spotted wearing a pizza printed top and pepperoni printed leggings to a VEGAN restaurant (brilliant), and she skipped the 2012 Grammys for a pizza date with Jay in Brooklyn (priorities). Could she be more perfect?
She’s Hot
In conclusion, Beyoncé runs the world; DZ runs the world. Need I say more?
