Why Being Vulnerable Is A Good Thing

We all have our demons but they can't haunt you if you choose to accept them.

Why Being Vulnerable Is A Good Thing

Vulnerability. To most people this is a terrifying word. This is because to be vulnerable you have to accept yourself, and more importantly you have to accept how others accept you. And whether or not we'd like to admit it it's really hard to be okay with who we are.

Everyone is embarrassed by something. It could be getting a bad grade on a test, peeing your pants or the classic drunk mistakes and trust me, I've done all three of these things. But why do they have to be embarrassing?

Of course, you can't just wake up one day and decide to be 100% okay with yourself and your life. However, learning to laugh at yourself is a good start. We can't control a lot of things in life and to waste energy being upset about them would be giving up a lot of good this world and yourself have to offer.

We are never going to be perfect. It's just simply not in the realm of possibilities as a human.

But the difference is I don't want to be perfect and you shouldn't either.

Trying to be a cookie cutter version of something you aren't isn't what sets you apart from anyone else and nobody wants to be friends with a person they can't relate to. All of us are fighting our own battles and admitting that is something that brings you closer to people as well as yourself because believe it or not someone out there has a story similar to your own and if you can't be honest with yourself you'll never have real honest relationships.

At the end of the day, we're all going to fail at something, get rejected and probably make a fool out of ourselves in some shape or form. Own your sh*t, good or bad. We all have our demons but they can't haunt you if you just choose to accept them.

So I'll leave you with three embarrassing things that have recently happened to me that I laugh about instead of being shameful of, and I encourage you to do the same and share something that forces yourself to be vulnerable.

1. During finals week I coughed in the library so hard that I peed my pants.

2. Thinking I was sly I stormed out of a bar via the back door and broke my middle finger doing so.

3. I kissed a boy while wearing dark red lipstick and walked around for an hour with it smeared all over me face. (Shout out to the random girl that stopped me and washed it off)

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
