Why Being Literary Makes You Happier

Alright, well, I don’t actually have scientific proof for this. Hear me out. There are a lot of reasons I have a passion for reading. First, it’s in my blood. My mom is a librarian, and my dad is a writer. I come from a family of avid readers. I wouldn’t have it any other way. My house is filled with books- the best decoration you can buy. Reading is a beautiful thing. When you read for fun, you can escape into a whole other world and lose yourself in love with characters. I started a new book the other day, and by page three, I was already smiling to myself growing fond of the charismatic man I just met. It doesn’t matter what you’re going through; the moment you pick up a book, your troubles can slip far away so quickly. Developing my love for reading has encouraged me to be a part of something great. Not only is reading great, but it is also even greater to be friends with people who read and share it with them.

This summer, I was part of a book club with some friends. When you’re literary, having a conversation with someone else who reads is more fun and more intriguing. Reading increases your vocabulary and makes you challenge yourself. Discussing your favorite characters and why they’re your favorite is so much fun, just as it is with a tv series or a movie. There is one exception though. With books, you get to create your own vision. With the help of the author, you get to dream up your own setting and everything. Each character is from your own imagination with the foundation of the details given. That’s why it’s so fun to talk about with others who read it- because they probably think something completely different.

In the end, reading for fun makes life more fun. It’s relaxing, and it makes you smarter. Next time you have free time, turn off Netflix and read your favorite book. It doesn’t have to be a textbook or something boring. Reading can be FUN if you make it fun. Read on, my fellow bookworms.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
