Why Another Tragedy Hit the United States

And how we can avoid it from happening again.

Why Another Tragedy Hit the United States

The night of September 10th, 2001, 3,000+ New York residents went to sleep after a decent day’s work. The citizens of what is known as the “pinnacle of the free world” kissed loved ones goodnight, some for the very last time ever. The morning after, this city representative of the free world was now representative of the cities harboring the terrorists that attacked us that fateful Autumn Tuesday in September.

The evening of December 13th, 2012, eighteen parents of a little known town called Newtown, Connecticut wished their children goodnight for the last time. Eight teachers of these children had started lesson plans for the following day. Little did they know, they'd be all victims in the Sandy Hook massacre created by Adam Lanza, child of one of the teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School in the small, quiet New England town.

In all of these massacre cases, there are motives to these horrific acts of violence. The motives of the horrendous attacks on a beautiful fall morning in September are well-debated. The latter's motives are unknown. It was discovered that the son of the dead teacher from Connecticut had a form of autism, so the inference is made that he was mentally incapacitated to understand what the consequences of said actions would have been, and that he was a loner who hardly had any support system of love to rely upon.

The same scenario was followed YET AGAIN this past weekend. The negative feelings of hate, anger, and sadness fueled the attack on The Pulse in Orlando, Florida. Omar Mateen took his hateful rhetoric and murdered the nightclub frequented by primarily gay men in the "worst massacre in U.S. history."

The fact that he was a Muslim and registered Democrat is irrelevant in this case. We are dealing with an individual that has had quite a rap-sheet of violence and trouble.

According to CNN, the rap-sheet includes:

  • School records that indicate that he was constantly in trouble throughout elementary and high school.
  • Law enforcement academy records indicating him asking a fellow classmate if he would snitch if he brought a gun to class.
  • Adding his wife to his life-insurance policy and giving her access to his bank accounts.

More than that, we are dealing with a monster that took the physical lives of innocent people and took the emotional lives of their close relatives and friends. And what for? He disagreed with the lifestyles of these patrons at this club? GET OVER IT! Whether or not somebody is gay, lesbian, transexual, bisexual, is hardly an excuse to murder them. There are a lot of ways people live that i disagree with, but that doesn’t mean i go out and kill them. Here’s how i’ve handled similar situations:

I MIND MY OWN BUSINESS AND LET THEM LIVE THEIR LIVES IN PEACE!!!

Let’s hope others follow suit so we don't have to face more tragedies…

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
