Adulting. It's become a new word for millennials to describe growing up.We use it when we think something we do is mature, like paying bills. Or something more simple such as making dinner and not eating Ramen till we're blue in the face. However the musical geniuses of our time have described the feelings of growing up in their very special way.
1. "A Million Years Ago" - Adele
Adele punches out a powerful chorus in this number. And just like any other Adele song I want to cry and call someone I haven't spoken to in years, apologize for all my wrongs and eat ice cream to ease my tears. If you don't believe me here's a few lines to wreck your emotional state.
2. "River Lea" - Adele
In case it wasn't clear in nearly every interview given after releasing 25, Adele has made it known that having a kid was the most "adulting" anyone could ever do. Upon having a child, Adele reflects on her own childhood a lot on her album. Thus continuing to make me bawl like a baby. Can Adele adopt me?
3. "The House that Built Me" - Miranda Lambert
If I am the only person that gets choked up thinking about moving on and trying to come home, then so be it. My emotions are not to be messed with. Its so easy to go on adventures and come back a whole new person. Those experiences are meant to change you. But sometimes we want to go back to our childhood bedroom, if only in our minds, put our hands on our old, tiny hand prints, and remember simpler times.
4. "Stressed Out" - 21 Pilots
Another rhyme about "the good old days," that clearly points out that growing up is stressful. So stressful that they even shout our parental's reminders of "WAKE UP YOU NEED TO MAKE MONEY." One of my favorite parts of the song is when the bands sings they wish the could make candles out of the smells that remind them of their childhood. If you bring me a candle that smells like my Grand
5. "Tattoos on this Town" - Jason Aldean
"It sure left its mark on us, we sure left our mark on it." Every time I sit in a room with my mom and my aunts, listening to their stories of growing up, it just gives me that feeling of "these were some of our best days and we lived them to the fullest." Aldean's own story in this song almost instantly connects with people because while someone else's time might be now, yours was there first.
6."No Such Thing" - John Mayer
I hear this song and instantly think of my old high school, completely empty, except me and my group of friends, running down the halls. Playing games, having entirely too much fun, especially for a stuffy christian school. John Mayer doesn't want to adult at all in this song. He just wants to scream at the top of his lungs. And most of us had those same feelings in high school. If you were one of the few that absolutely loved every minute of high school, I almost automatically don't trust you.
7."Summer of 69"- Bryan Adams
Everyone needs to roll down the windows on a hot July day and blare this song from the speakers, at least once in their lifetime. We all reminisce about special memories and portions of our lives but nothing says "grown up" like having to sit in the corner cubicle in June, when you used to spend the summer afternoons at the local Sonic drinking slushies that made your tongue turn blue. Gone are the days of staying up late with friends simply because there's no school in the morning. But with this older throwback song, you can unwind and thin of those glory days... and maybe go through the Sonic drive thru for old times sake.
