Why It's Actually Fun When Your Parents Visit

Once college rolls around, everything changes; parents transform. Now you're the one calling them, wanting to chat and catch up, while they move on with their so-called busy lives back at home.

Especially after the excitement of freedom during freshman year settles down, you actually find yourself wanting to see your parents. What's up with that? The feeling can be kind of weird at first, but over time, you really start to become friends with your parents in college. Once they start to take you seriously and also realize that their time with you is limited, parents make the time they spend with their college kid all the more enjoyable.

Now that you're on your own, and you're experiencing this newfound friendship with your dear old parents, you love when they come to visit. Who wouldn't, when they treat you like royalty?

Here are just some of the reasons why we love it when parents come to town:

They pay for everything.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't the ONLY reason that makes it fun when the parents visit, but it definitely helps.

Maybe your parents give you an allowance every month, or maybe they don't. Either way, you have to budget your money, and be conscious of how much you're spending and on what. When mom and dad come to visit, they forget you have your own money, even if it's theirs that you've been using. They don't let you pay for anything, and if you're lucky, they'll even take you grocery shopping. Time to stock up!

They clean your room.

Okay, so really this is in a perfect world. But on occasion, if parents are extra bored, they have been known to vacuum, sweep, or at least tidy up the room.

They take you to eat.

Not only do your parents treat you to a free meal, but most likely they let YOU pick the place! Double whammy!

Your friends like when mom and dad come to town too because sometimes they get the free dinner invite as well.

They (might) bring you food.

If mom has had some extra time at home to cook/bake, you might get lucky with some homemade goodies.

Gives you a break from the real world.
Although it's a blast to be with your friends 24/7, sometimes it's refreshing to be around people of a different age. Parents are a sweet, refreshing social scene from the everyday college kid scene.

They make

you feel like a princess (even though it's probably only been a month since they've seen you).
Even on top of the free meals and potential room-cleaning, parents still continue to treat you like royalty. Now that you've left the nest, they miss you. This time with them is valuable, and they want you to be happy while you're with them.

Life lessons.
You don't have to hide everything from them because they know what it was like to be in college … wait maybe that means you should hide it then. Either way, they know you're a college kid, and you're having fun. Believe it or not, they want you to have fun — just maybe not TOO much, after all, they are paying for your tuition.

Make you feel like everything is okay.
As fun as it is, college can be stressful. Parents have the magic power to make everything better. No matter what obstacle, test, or struggle you are trying to conquer, it's nothing your mom or dad can't handle.

An excuse to drop your other responsibilities during that time.
“Oh sorry I can't, my parents are going to be in town." No one ever argues with that excuse. You can even use it for studying!

In all, being in college really makes you appreciate your parents and the guidance, love, and support they've provided your whole life.

Cheers to parents!!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
