8ams are an outcast, a concept we eagerly try to shun from society. The thought which makes us cry sleep deprived tears. However, I urge my dear friends to take another look at 8ams, to hear me out, and give them another chance. Maybe they aren’t as bad as you think.
- You are probably the first one up in your house. I guess it depends who you are living with, but the odds are, you will probably be one of the first people up. This means that you will get some quiet alone time in the morning to allow your brain to adjust to lights, and noises, and life. Also, you won’t have to compete with as many people for the shower or the bathroom.
- Get the good classes. When it comes to scheduling, we all know how stressful that can be. The Hunger Wars begin the second the portal is opened to select classes. It is easier to get a class you want if it is at an undesirable time. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather get all the classes I want than reserve my rights to sleep in. However, I do love sleeping in. Taking earlier classes has saved me severely from deviating from my four year plan and spending extra money on a fifth year of college. After all, I’m poor enough as it is.

4. More time to be productive. When you wake up early as a rule, you have more time in your day. It is easier to organize yourself when you have more daylight to do things like homework, or cleaning, or that list of Netflix series you have yet to watch. I cannot confirm this as a scientific fact, but 8ams may very well be the cure to procrastination (though it may vary depending on the severity of the procrastination problem). Often, when I don’t have morning classes, I sleep in past twelve and waste away half my day forgetting to allow myself to have enough time to do my homework in between my classes, attend clubs, and complete daily chores.
5. You get it over with. When you load up on mostly morning classes, you can get out super early, possibly even before noon. There is nothing better than the feeling of having nearly a whole day with nothing to do and nowhere to be. It leaves room for the glorious leisurely activity of napping. As a current victim of night classes, I must confess that I miss very much getting out of my classes, and it still being daylight.
I would not go as far to say that I miss my 8ams, but I now realized that they were greatly underappreciated.
