According to bulletjournal.com, a bullet journal is defined as "a customizable and forgiving organization system. It can be your to-do list, sketchbook, notebook, and diary, but most likely, it will be all of the above. It will teach you to do more with less."
Bullet journals are perfect for people that LOVE stationary, writing, drawing, being organized, lists, color coding, making to-do lists, or checking off items on the two list. Even if you do not love all of, some of, or even none of the above, bullet journaling is perfect for anyone who is trying to stay more organized.
Here are a couple of reasons on why you should make 2017 the year you start a bullet journal.
Bullet journaling helps keep you more organized than you could ever expect.
Bullet journaling saved my life this past semester of college. In my Bullet Journal, there is a table of contents and I add a page number at the bottom of each page in my Bullet Journal, so I always know where everything is. It is so nice to have a planner, my daily to-do lists, my daily gratitude list, school papers all in one place. This journal is my life line.
Bullet journaling is perfect for keeping up with goals and resolutions.
Bullet Journaling is perfect for writing goals. I don’t know about you, but if I write down a goal I am usually held more accountable to try to achieve that goal. It is so cool to me to see progress written down on paper rather than a computer sometimes. It’s so satisfying to see yourself log your process rather than just type it in on your laptop or phone. Sometimes it’s also really satisfying to check off something that you have done or accomplished.
Bullet journaling is perfect for any student.
This method of organization saved my life last semester as a double major. It helped academically because making my own calendar after I got my syllabi kept me more accountable and more likely to remember important due dates because I had written them down. Another reason these journals are perfect is because it can serve as an alternative for taking notes when your laptop has died or you do not have any paper.
Bullet journaling can turn into a fun hobby or a nice creative outlet.
Not only did this journal keep me organized, but it kept me creative. It was fun to come up with things to put in my journal. This took my mind off of the stresses that come with college. Some of the topics I chose were daily gratitude, Odyssey Article ideas, and books I want to read. Everyone needs a creative outlet, so why not have one that keeps you productive as well?
Bullet journaling can also have a positive effect on mental health.
My Bullet Journal helped me become healthier mentally. Bullet Journaling helped me organize my thoughts, which would overall make me feel a lot better. Through Bullet Journaling my thoughts became organized through doing to-do list, to help keep me focused on daily tasks that needed to be done, I also would create a “To Done List” (cheesy I know) so that I would have positive reinforcement whenever finished a task. I also have a gratitude part of my journal and every day I write down something good that happened the previous day.
This journal can be literally any journal.
When I first heard of bullet journaling I thought it sounded expensive and required money to buy all the accessories, but it doesn’t. I just bought a super cute Kate Spade journal and added what I wanted to be in there using ideas from Pinterest and BuzzFeed.
In the end and most importantly, it just is for you (it is just a journal) and it does not have to be fancy, unless you want it to be of course.
If you look at Bullet Journaling online their seems to be so many elaborate drawings, lots of Washi tape, handwriting so beautiful that it looks unreal. However, my journal is very simple because that is the way I want it to be. I do not have time or talent to make it look as pretty as the ones on Pinterest. That’s fine by me. But if that is what you want then go for it and I will probably envy your talent.
And that is why you should start a bullet journal in 2016. Seriously, do it.
