Everyone loves a good game, and the world is crazed by Pokémon GO. It's not an app that only has a cult following; I mean just about everyone is playing this game. Here are some types of people I've encountered playing Pokémon GO and what they were like to meet:
1. Teenage boys
These punks usually think they know everything about the game, and you'll know this because they will brag loudly about it. They'll tell you that your Gym is weak, beat it, and then (often times) place something mind boggling like a low CP Pidgeot in it. They're obnoxious in the way that only teenage boys can master.
2. Teenage girls
On the flip side, teenage girls think they know a lot about the game, but in reality often know very little. They're the kind of players who get really excited about catching CP 14 Eevee, Caterpie, and Weedle. They're also the kinds of players who pronounce every single name incorrectly, but I give them credit for their enthusiasm.
3. Grown up 90's kids
These young adults (like me) are living the dream! They see the game as a journey, and most play almost every day. They're very likely to theorize, criticize, and discuss the game within the context of the entire Pokémon series. Essentially, 90's kids are aiming to be the very best like no one ever was.
4. (Drunk) Moms
Before you readers call shenanigans on this one, it's true; I've seen it happen with my own eyes. After dusk, there are a few moms who will appear in the parks to see what the game is about without too many people seeing and judging them. A few weeks ago I helped my elementary school librarian (who is a mom) by teaching her how to evolve her Pokémon. They have great spirits about the game.
5. Businessmen and women
It's not uncommon to see men walking around parks in their suits and ties after a day in the office. Ranging in age, these guys just want to balance work and fun, and I can't say I blame them at all.
6. Little kids and their parents
This one really warms my heart. I love walking around to find 5 and 6 year olds walking with their parents trying to find Pokémon, battling Gyms, and laughing. It makes me smile that this game is bringing families together as well as introducing the world of Pokémon to a new generation of children.
7. Elderly people
This group is also heartwarming, but they aren't seen as often. But I challenge you: if you see an elderly person sitting on a bench near Poké Stops in a park, sneak a look at their phone. I'll bet you at least half of them are playing the game (even if it's just to check out the hype.)
Who have you met playing Pokémon GO?
