"When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die." - Cersei Lannister, "A Game of Thrones" by George R. R. Martin
HBO's "Game of Thrones" has entertained millions through premium cable, online streaming, and illegal downloads. So far, there have been 62 episodes filled with hours of medieval drama. Unfortunately, a series finale is coming. And that end is coming soon (faster than it took for winter, sadly).
We are currently on season 7 of the show, and the showrunners have confirmed that there will only be one more season. So it's time to start analyzing who will become ultimate ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.
15. Gilly
We start #15 with Gilly because, well we can't not include Gilly. I mean, yes her son is also her brother (welcome to "Game of Thrones"). However, she probably wouldn't know what to do as Queen. Does she even know what a Queen is? So it's highly unlikely she will reign supreme ruler. Which brings us to her pretend baby-daddy...
14. Samwell Tarly
Sam can't fight, but he can read like hell. It will be highly unlikely for Sam to become King of Westeros. However, I predict he will be an important figure after the Great War. Hopefully proving himself trustworthy by curing Jorah's greyscale, Daenerys may grant him status of Grand Maester, if she becomes Queen, that is.
13. Davos Seaworth
Davos has proved himself loyal on many occasions. But he's not fit for the throne. He's still playing the game though, and he would make a great Hand of the King.
12. Bran Stark
Bran can't produce an heir, so his reign will be highly improbable. He's got more on his plate now being the Three Eyed Raven. King's Landing is not where his storyline is headed.
11. Brienne of Tarth
Brienne is fulfilling her promise to Catelyn Stark by protecting her daughter, Sansa, and she wouldn't abandon her loyalty to just now start conspiring to take the throne. However, she would make a great Lady Commander of the Kingsguard (or Queensguard).
10. Jaime Lannister
Jaime Lannister could easily kill his sister, Cersei, and sit on the Iron Throne himself. He's done it before with the Mad King, so why not do it again to the Mad Queen? And why not do it to the woman who was responsible for all three of his children's deaths? It's something to think about.
9. Petyr Baelish (Littlefinger)
Let's just hope Littlefinger never becomes King. Do you hear that George R. R. Martin? Don't do this to us.
8. Jorah Mormont
Ever since Jorah confessed his love for the Mother of Dragons, his chances of becoming King have gotten higher. Daenerys was really moved by the speech where he said he loved her since the day he met her (when she was 16 and he's 45), but it was still one of the most touching scenes Jorah has been a part of. There's a high chance there's room for him in King's Landing.
7. Arya Stark
If Arya were to ever take the Iron Throne, it would probably be with someone else's face.
6. Sansa Stark
Sansa Stark wants power, and that was proven in episode 2, "Stormborn," when that look of satisfaction slid across her face after Jon declared her in charge of Winterfell while he was gone. Does she want the Iron Throne? More than likely not. She does, however, want her rightful place as Lady of Winterfell / Wardess of the North.
5. Cersei Lannister
Unfortunately, Cersei will probably still be Queen of Westeros by the end of season seven. Some theories predict that before Daenerys can even take over the Iron Throne, the White Walkers will become too much of a threat, leading her goal off course until next season. Cersei will face her downfall soon enough though, and that might be thanks to...
4. Tyrion Lannister
He drinks, he knows things, and he would never take the throne from his Queen Daenerys. However, he will definitely help her get there. If you haven't heard recent theories, then you haven't heard about Tyrion being prophesied as Cersei's volanqar (little brother or sister in Valyrian). Cersei's prophecy states that a volanqar will kill Cersei. Whether that's Tyrion Lannister, Jaime Lannister, or a secret Lannister sibling we don't know about, we won't be seeing Cersei for very long.
3. Jon Snow
If it wasn't for Bran's vision of Jon Snow being born as a legitimate heir to the Iron Throne (by being the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen), Jon Snow wouldn't be as far down this list. But, the world wanted his legitimacy, so that's what we got. Now, if Jon Snow didn't want to be King in the North, then he definitely doesn't want to be King of Westeros. More than likely he would give his position to someone who's been fighting for it more, like his Aunt (but also future lover)...
2. Deanerys Targaryen
I know you are probably thinking, "why is the Mother of Dragons coming in at number 2?" Well, it would be too obvious for the show to give the audience what it wants. Think about it: "Game of Thrones" gave us the execution of Ned Stark, the Red Wedding, the explosion of the Great Sept of Baelor (killing off an entire religion and almost all of the Tyrells), and the murder/resurrection of Jon Snow. None of these situations were predictable. So why would the showrunners make the female protagonist of the show the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms? It's too obvious (and too comforting) of a situation to give the audience.
1. No One
And I'm not talking about the assassins who follow the Many Faced God. "Game of Thrones" is a show made to be unpredictable. With that, the most shocking revelation this show could deliver is that there would be no supreme ruler. What would be more shocking to viewers than a show about people fighting for a throne, when in the end there would be no throne? Would we want this? No. But the biggest plot twist in the show? I think so.
Also, let's not forget about the vision both Bran and Daenerys have had with the Iron Throne Room covered in ashes.
