On July 4th in 1776 America's 13 original colonies officially declared independence from Great Britain. 240 years later, United States Citizens across the nation still come together on this day to celebrate our freedom. While you enjoy your time with family and friends today, don't forget to remember who/what's behind this fantastic holiday.

1. The Declaration of Independence

When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to thank our founding fathers, an Odyssey article is the way to do it.

2. Fireworks

Nothing screams 'freedom' like a big bright boom in the sky. We also can't forget the joy parachutes, sparklers and smoke bombs bring us all (no matter your age).

3. BBQ

The smell of fireworks in the air mixes perfectly with the smell of the grill and more importantly what's cooking on the grill.

4. Beer

Who's ingenious idea was it to change 'Budweiser' to 'America' this summer anyway? This one's for you America, cheers!

5. Family

One of the best parts about any holiday is getting to spend time with your family. The Fourth is no exception.

6. Old Navy

And the best thing about family on the Fourth of July is the matching Old Navy flag tees!

7. The July Heat

We may complain about the heat the rest of the summer, but the Fourth wouldn't be the same without 90 degree weather.

8. Red, White and Blue

I don't know anyone who doesn't look good in red, white and blue!

9. Patriotism

What better feeling is there than loving your country? Go USA!

10. Our Troops

Finally, we save the best for last. We wouldn't be the country we are today if it wasn't for our troops. Never forget to thank the ones who have, who are and who will fight for our country and our freedom. Thank you to all of our troops. Today, we salute you!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
