I think that it is totally and completely inspirational that we have our teens and young adults speaking out and leading a revolution for change.
It's humbling and exciting that people a couple years below my age, my age, and a little older, are so actively pursuing political action to stand for what they believe in. Sometimes it's not enough to say that you believe in something --you've got to do it.
It's like with any moral belief you have --whether it be religious or otherwise. You have to actively pursue it as apart of yourself. These things are not handbag accessories we carry around for fun. If you see an injustice occupying itself in your backyard, then you have a right to fix it. And to actively do something about it.
It's not enough to be outraged, and it's not going to do anything to stew in your anger over something. Have an opinion, take a stand, and do something about it. You have a right to be inspired by your outrage or sorrow to do something about it.
We have a remarkable privilege to build the society that we want to see at the moment, and in the future. And I think that sometimes this is something that we keep in our back pocket, but never truly use.
It's the teen girls who are shaking the nation and striking our leaders at the moment. It's words and actions. And protests and pushing. It's the empathy of our generation that fuels the fire of progress. We're strong, and we most definitely will not go down without a fierce fight.
And for me, that's really exciting. It's exciting to see young women own the floor in a flame war.
I was once asked what I hoped to see in the future for our young ladies. For me, I hope to see the complexity of dynamic young women grow and evolve. I want women who scream, and yell, and cry, and laugh, and pray, and jump, and throw temper tantrums, and write poetry and are heard. I want women who are heard. Who reclaim their time in order to be heard, and get heard, and continue to be heard.
However, this can --and should-- be applied to everyone in our generation, and our generations to come.
We don't have to wait a decade from now for this to happen because we are doing this today. Our country's children are watching you --So choose your actions boldly and wisely.
Let the injustices of the world make you grieve.
Then get up and do something to make sure that they never happen again.
