What innocently began as a prank phone call quickly became a popular Internet sensation: "Deez Nuts." Across the country, young adults and teens alike are in stitches over this two-letter telephone trick and are itching for more. And Brady Olsen, an Iowa farm boy of 15 years, gave the nation what it wanted.
According to an interview with "Rolling Stone," Brady's a 15-year-old with "no day job, no kids, no marriage" that decided to troll North Carolina and subsequently, the nation. After stating that he had a green flag from his parents, Olsen continued to quote that he created the fake name to run against lower-level candidates just to see how desperate the voters were. However, the sophomore in high school gained more attention that originally expected. After emailing a poling specialist, Deez Nuts became a part of Public Policy Poling. As a result, 9 percent of the population that was given the poll said they would vote for Deez Nuts over Trump or Clinton, according to "The Daily Beast." Brady also stated that he decided to run to combat the current individuals running for office: Clinton, Bush, and Trump. He told "Rolling Stone" that he didn't want to see them in office, so he's putting up a fight. And as a self-proclaimed Libertarian, he's gaining the most attention any Independent candidate has in quite some time.
So my questions are these—what does Deez Nuts have to offer us? What makes him qualified? Well, Rolling Stone also asked Olsen. His response? "The fact that if I can fill out a form so vague that it doesn't include your age, or the fact that all get accepted even if they're only partially filled, anyone can run." As for what he can offer, Olsen states that since he's young, his actions have a longer impact and therefore his ideas are fresher than those of Trump. Olsen is even bold enough to say that he'd ask Hillary Clinton why she's not open and friendly like her competition, Bernie Sanders.
In the age of smartphones, Internet, and virtual reality, one candidate is rising slowly among the ranks. Deez Nuts may become more than just a practical joke, rather, the future of America. Olsen was quoted as saying that he's willing to take the joke as far as America wants to take it. So the only question I have left is this: How far are we taking this, America? Will Deez Nuts take office in 2016? If so, what does that look like for us as a nation? I guess the only way to find out is to vote and stay tuned.
