Throughout the recent (or not so recent, depending on who you ask) presidential paradigms, there has been a rather consistent theme that continues to amass; I am of course referring to the citizens’ trust in “government.” While the statement tends to lie on a rather general scale, it doesn’t take a political genius to notice this unfortunate trend.
While it saddens me to say we have ventured into the “entertainment era” of politics, we must still find a government agency that is able to handle the issues of our great nation without intentional corruption or party bias. The other eminent issue is that these agencies have become dark holes for taxpayer dollars with budgets in the hundreds of billions of dollars.
I’m sure each of you has signed many checks to these many agencies and have been waiting to see repercussion. We are the individuals funding government implications, although we can all agree we do not even trust the government enough to return their investment.
Each year the government takes our earnings to create the Department of Health and Human Services' (DHHS) 900 billion dollar budget. For those of you who may not know, they’re in charge of things including, but not limited to, MediCare and MedicAid. Tell me, why would you pay into something that you very well might never qualify for? It is a broken system, but we still continue to give them 900 billion dollars.
Next, I would like to address the mess we like to call the DOD or, Department of Defense. Each year, they receive approximately 650 billion dollars to continue a “war” that hasn’t quite accomplished much. We continue to pump the DOD with an incredibly high budget in order to place more nukes than fish in the Atlantic. And you better believe this number will grow exponentially if we do ever go to war with North Korea.
I would like to also incorporate the NSA under the DOD; but do we seriously need to discuss what’s wrong with the NSA? Let us not forget Snowden, Shadow Broker, Guccifer 2.0 to name a few...
The last, and most disappointing is the Department of Justice (often referred to as the DOJ.) This department houses the recently-infamous FBI. They receive an annual just shy of 100 billion dollars. While they might not be receiving the starstruck numbers of the other agencies, they are responsible for a great deal of the presidential soap-opera. The FBI, who should probably be the saving grace in this disaster, have proven to be somewhat of a private army to the president as of recent. This department also houses the infamous CIA; the reset is history.
As self-evident as it may be, one cannot help to raise the question: Who can you trust?
In a society where you can no longer trust mainstream media, presidential candidates or the several departments of government, we are left to decypher what is factual and what is pure… well, you know that part.
While I am aware that I lack in a solution, that was not necessarily the point to be drawn here. I solely wish to raise awareness that we are currently a society in which trust in government no longer resides.
In my own opinion, this would be a sure-fire example as to why we need to cut these programs as well as a majority of government spending in general. Especially due to the fact that the aforementioned departments have amassed far more dollars than trust.
