Where to Hold Your Next Formal

184

Everyone loves road tripping to another area code for a night out on a town a little more exciting than West Lafayette. I did a little research and found some unique venues for next year's away game.Spring time is home to many fraternities' formals, which are held in places like Chicago, Louisville and other big cities within a couple hours' drive of Purdue. Check out these three options and do something out of the ordinary.Asheville, N.C. - What's in Asheville, N.C., you ask? The largest privately owned house in the country. That's what. I'm talking about the Biltmore mansion and estate. This place makes the houses that the Greek community often refers to as "frat castles" look like doll houses.

This mansion of monolithic proportions is 178,926 square feet of polished luxury. That's just over three football fields of space. Plenty of room for a party, if you ask me.

The staff treats you like royalty and they have all kinds of things for large groups to do. The Asheville night life is also pretty top notch should you decide to venture off the 8,000 acre estate.

Gatlinburg, Tenn. - This option might not be the place for a true formal in regard to the dress code, but it could still make for a fun weekend long party. I suppose if you want to dress up no one can stop you, though.
With an economy based on tourism, there are endless options for entertainment in Gatlinburg. There are bars and restaurants all over and the best options for lodging are nothing like your typical hotel room. There are cabins in the mountains, some of which sleep over 50 people that you can rent for cheaper than you think. And by cabins, I mean colossal log castles.
If you decide against going into the city, you can always throw a house party Jay Gatsby would be proud of. It would be like spring break for two days, but in the mountains rather than on a beach.

Boyne Falls, Mich. - Those of you who have been there recognize the name. To those who haven't, there is a ski resort here called Boyne Mountain. It's definitely the nicest ski resort in the Midwest that I've been to, and they have packages for group events like weddings and what not.
You could plan to ski the day before or day of the formal itself and shake up the typical formal scene. Instead of bright city lights and skyscrapers you can go shred the slopes by day, then suit up and get fancy by night.
This option incorporates more active participation in the event instead of just mingling with everyone and taking pictures, which is what normally happens. People stand and make small talk, sip on drinks from the open bar and pose for pictures. If more action is what you want, give the ski trip formal a shot.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
