I really don't understand, and I honestly don't think I ever will. I don't think I have the mental capacity to understand.
Understand what, you ask?
Where is the LOVE?
What happened to knowing our neighbors, kids playing in the streets until sunset, friendly faces as we walk down the street? Those very same neighbors now disassociate themselves because of stupid things, like having a Hispanic family in a white neighborhood. Those same kids are now chained to electronics, completely destroying their ability to converse with the rest of the world, because those same streets are no longer considered 'safe'. What happened to open-mindedness and acceptance?
Simple things those who came before us millennials took for granted, now gone.
Within the last week, The United States has taken a massive hit-- right in the comfort zone. We have people like Brock Turner getting 6 months in COUNTY jail for raping a beautiful soul behind a DUMPSTER while UNCONSCIOUS. We had the tragic death of an up-and-coming super star, Christina Grimmie by a fan at an AUTOGRAPH SIGNING. We lost fifty incredible people in Orlando from a terrorist attack/ hate crime.
I want to know what the hell happened.
What the hell happened to this place we call 'home' that was so miserable, people feel the need to commit such horrendous acts against their own kind. What happened that injected us with so much hate. What happened that made us un-human?
By nature, the human race takes care of one another. We are all connected, a family, and we want to help those around us.
Not anymore.
Now, I know I am not the most versed and well traveled person out there, and I admit that I am still young, but I personally DO NOT think that there was something so catastrophic that the only option to get the 'message' out there is kill innocent, beautiful people. I want to know who filled all these different people's minds with such garbage and hate, creating a breeding ground for violence.
I want to know where the embracing of others went. As a nation, we are more divided than ever, and it is all of our own doing. We have such particular sub-groups and sub-cultures, identifying as totally normal things, like "man" and "woman", has been so misconstrued, those very same, probably 100% innocent, people can be labeled pedophile in one quick, easy glance. Even race and religion divides us-- something we promised our ancestors we would not let happen. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, and Ghandi did not do all they did to influence the world, just to have us screw it up in a matter of years.
I want to know why it is so hard to see the beauty in everything. There is ALWAYS a silver lining--- except when tragedy strikes for no good reason. I am not talking about ISIS or Terrorist Groups because they are atypical populations that are so deranged, they might honestly believe up is actually down, and down is actually up. I am talking about the own crimes against others that occur on a day-to-day basis. Things like, not holding the door and not picking up something that falls in front of us. Those are crimes against us-- we are actively choosing to go against our natural beings because 'something bad is going to happen'.
Yes, terrorist groups and hate crimes are massive parts of the problem and need to be eradicated before the world can know peace again, but the bigger one is the lack of love for others in our hearts.
So, I am asking any and everyone that reads this: where is the love? Is it in your heart? Is it in your actions? What can you do to help spread and show your love for others?
Please, take a moment every day to appreciate what you have, and think about what small thing you can do to make this world a little better.
