Where Is The Love?

"I see humans, but no humanity."

Where Is The Love?

Due to recent events and seeing everything that has been happening around the world it has led me to believe that we have lost sight of what is really important. The world is so full of hatred and lack of compassion for others. Horrible, tragic events occur and instead of supporting each other -- we tear each other down. We are focusing energy on having different opinions and making sure everyone knows where we stand when really all we are doing is dividing ourselves. Suddenly we have no compassion if it goes against our viewpoint. We are all human, we have so many qualities that bring us together, but we choose to look at the ones that make us different, and focus on the negatives.

Diversity is beautiful. We are all people and all deserve to be loved, appreciated and understood. Discrimination is a huge issue, and I don't understand why we can't see past people's differences and realize that love does not discriminate.

We shouldn't care what color someone's skin is. We shouldn't care about what someone's sexual orientation is. We shouldn't care about what gender someone identifies with. We shouldn't care about who someone wants to vote for. Everyone is different obviously so why can't we accept that and move on? Why does humanity have to keep dwelling on things that don't matter in the grand scheme of things?

We need more love and less hate. We need to stop looking for differences in each other. We need to be there for each other because that's what we're supposed to do. It is so sad to wake up every morning and hear more stories about someone getting killed, about someone being treated poorly because of their skin color or who they love. A day doesn't go by that you don't hear something negative going on in the world, and it feels as though it is happening more and more frequently. It becomes a domino effect because we choose to take it that far.

It is scary to think about what the future holds if this continues. Who wants to raise a family in this kind of world? Where it is okay to openly hate people for things that they can't help. A place where violence is the only thing in the news and where innocent people die for no reason.

Opinions are great, and they allow us to have freedom with what we believe, but I think that we take it too far. Just because something goes against your opinion or belief doesn't mean that you have to have no empathy towards others who believe different.

I think that we need to learn how to respect each other's differences and move on. Times are hard and right now there is so much hate in the world, I can only hope that we wake up and change for the better and that we help each other out and stop caring about the things we can't change. Humanity is not lost; we just need more love.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
