13 years ago, the Black Eyed Peas released their hit song, "Where is the Love," featuring Justin Timberlake. That time, the War in Iraq was beginning and the country was already in Afghanistan. It was a time the 9/11 terrorist attacks were still being felt.
Times change, or do they?
Now, over a decade has gone by, and the same question is still being asked, where is the love?
The devastating events in Orlando is the latest tragic event in the U.S. to fill the unnecessarily long list of mass shootings. It's not the first mass shooting and who knows if it will be the last the way this world is heading, the way this country is heading.
I was born in '96, but growing up, I've only known a world filled with hate and war. To be 20 years of age and not know what peace feels or looks like is tragedy.
Regardless of your political or religious beliefs, no one deserves to be murdered the way those innocent victims were.
It's time to set aside our beliefs and come together as a nation, to come together for humanity.
There's no denying that The United States, alone, has more mass shootings than probably any other country. Yet, this nation has done nothing to protect the innocent lives.
Nothing.
Everyone has the basic right to their life. We learned this early on and it's common sense.
"But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate." -Black Eyed Peas, "Where is the Love"
Even the current election is being bought on hate and violence, yet this nation is supposed to be about, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Think about it, a song released in 2003, is still, still relevant to the society we're living in currently in 2016. We only get this one world, this one life, in which we live in. Do you really want it filled with hate?
Think about it, schools are more likely to have a shooter, than a fire.
Think about it, in a land where "all men are created equal," where is the equality?
Think about it, and ask yourself, where is the love?
