It’s almost March again. With March comes the best week of the year, spring break. Maybe you’re heading to the beach. Maybe you’re hitting the slopes in the Colorado mountains or perhaps releasing your inner child and spending a few days at “most magical place on Earth.” It doesn’t really matter where you’re heading, it would be much more fun if your journey turned into a road trip! Here are eight steps to ensure you plan and execute the best spring break road trip ever!
1. Decide who is going.
Honestly, deciding who is going on your road trip is probably one of the most important, if not THE most important, step in the whole planning process of your road trip. Spending an ungodly amount of hours within the confines of a car with someone you haven’t spent a prolonged period of time with is probably NOT a good idea.
So many factors need to be considered, such as: are they willing to drive? Do they get annoyed easily? Do they become annoying easily? Do they like to complain? What kind of music do they listen to? Just make sure you enjoy their company and that they are willing to drive if need be.
2. Decide on the final destination.
Of course the journey is important, but where will you end up? Are you into partying? Hit up Florida. History? Head to Washington D.C. or Philadelphia. Just make sure everyone on the trip will get a little bit of what they enjoy at your final stopping place!
3. Decide on the route taken.
Another super important step is choosing the route taken on your drive! It will determine what places you have the opportunity to stop and see. To get the most variety, take one route to the destination and another on the way back.
4. Decide what restaurants will be stopped at.
To maximize your time for sight seeing and stops, plan what cities you will stop at and the restaurants you will eat at. This will help avoid arguing and indecision. Plus, you can go online and see ratings and reviews beforehand.
5. Make an itinerary.
To ensure that you see every place you want to, make an itinerary before you leave. Make a schedule and try to stick to it!
6. Stick to the budget.
Budget is not very fun to think about, but everyone has one. The budget determines everything about the trip. How much are you willing to spend on gas? Hotels? Food?
7. Pack strategically
If more than a couple people are going on the trip, there will be a lot of luggage and not enough space in the car. Make sure to pack simple items that can be worn more than once. Consolidate with the other people on the trip (only one hair dryer is needed).
8. Get comfy!
You don’t want the trip to be uncomfortable. Make sure to download some music, stock your car with blankets and pillows and have some food stored in the trunk.
Remember, the journey is just as important as the destination. If you follow these steps, you will have the perfect road trip this spring break.
