With less than ten days 'til spring break hits, by now, you are sure to have your plans set that more than likely will involve some sort of travel. Whether it's on a cruise or to different state or country, here are some essentials to keep in mind before the week of bliss finally arrives.
1. Get Your Travel Plans in Check
No one likes last minute changes or even setbacks so close to the date of an event. It’s your job to call and confirm to make sure all things are in order and avoid all the last minute stress that we always seem to end up having to face.
2. Buy What You Need
With sunscreen, towels or even a new bag, don’t scramble the night before by realizing you need a certain item. Start noting the things you need and buy them ahead of time.
3. The Suitcase
While you may think there’s always something missing, be aware of the weather and activities you will be doing throughout the week. Sensible clothes, swim wear, and apparel you can wear to a nice dinner or night out are essentials no matter what. And whatever you do, don’t forget the charger.
4. Start Looking at Things to Do
You don’t need to have an itinerary for every hour, in fact, it’s great to just wander around and see what's out there (while being cautious, of course). However, having several activities in mind is a great way to get a head start and avoid the "now what?" moment after you’re all settled in.
5. Be Aware of Important Numbers
Things happen, and it's best to know what to do in those situations. Jot down or screenshot important numbers, such as medical and security personnel, to help solve any situation quickly.
6. Don't Be Late
Don’t get left behind. This one may be silly, but imagine being the only one not going to something you paid for due to waking up later or not keeping the traffic in mind. You don’t have to sleep in the parking lot, but traffic and getting ready may take longer than expected, so make time for that in your wake up.
7. Know What’s Allowed
Always go back to the list that clearly states what is prohibited. Even though we like to be rebels, there’s always that one that ends up getting caught, making all eyes turn to your group.
8. Your Phone Is Important but Not the Reason You’re There
Do bring the essentials, starting with your phone, for pictures, contacts, and even just for the playlist, but don’t let it take hold over the week. Posting on Facebook and Snapchat can wait, as being in the moment is a unique experience and you don’t know when you’re going to be there again. Rather, take a journal and a digital camera, allowing you to record all those moments while giving your phone a break.
9. Get Excited and Try New Things
This may be your first time traveling to a particular place or finally getting a much-needed break. Absorb the environment to the fullest while taking a break from the regular dramatic and hectic routine. Whether it's a new port or city, step out of your comfort zone, try new things, and make your trip count.
