Every friend group has that one friend who is the hot mess. The one who is always late to things, losing their keys for the millionth time or just doesn’t have a grip on their life. If you can’t think of who it is well then it might be you. If you’re lucky, like with my friends group, there will be two of you to share the title of “hot mess."
I am the first to admit that I am a hot mess 99.99% of the time. I lose my keys or I.D. card on the daily basis. If you want to meet me for lunch at 12:30 you better tell me to be there by 12 because I will be looking for my shoes for a solid 20 minutes. I straight up need to get my life together, every other day, basically. However, I am one of the lucky ones who has another friend to share this title with.
I’m lucky to have one of my best friends to be a hot mess with me. If she isn’t asking if you can put tin foil in the microwave, then you can bet I am. If I left the crock-pot on over night she probably left the stove on the day before. If you look into our rooms right now you would think that a tornado went through but that is okay because we have better things to do rather than clean our rooms. When it is our night to cook it is basically a joke because our cooking abilities are next to none.
When our other friends all decided to go on a health kick we thought it would be a good idea. That was until we realized we had to give up our beloved hot Cheetos and pudding cups. Also, who knew that running could be so horrible? While the rest of our friends were making us eat dust we were huffing and puffing.
When we go out together we are each others enablers. It makes going out that much more fun when there is someone there that just understands how you like to party. When the rest of the friend group is telling us to slow down and that we need to go home, we just look at each other and know we are fine and ready to continue to have a good time. It is guaranteed that one of us does something embarrassing if not the both of us but it is okay because we are such hot messes that it is expected. Plus, being dubbed the hot mess means that basically anything and everything we do is not a surprise.
While all of our other friends are doing things with their lives like applying for internships, signing leases to houses, and doing adult things; us hot messes of the world are just trying to take each day one step at a time. So if you are the hot mess of the friend group own up to it because hopefully one day we will get our lives together but until then let’s live it up.
