When You're One of the Guys

When you're one of the guys, friendship has a whole new meaning. Your friends are some of the most honest, trustworthy, loyal, and understanding people you will ever meet. They never hold anything against you, and they show you what it truly means to feel loved and accepted.

When you're one of the guys, they won't treat you differently just because your a girl. Sometimes, they'll forget you're a girl. You'll respond to "bro", and gender roles sometimes go out the window. You'll find new ways to get on each other's nerves, and fight just like siblings do. You'll sit through countless hours of deep talks, dirty jokes, and drinking games. You'll feel most comfortable when you're all lounging in your sweatpants and playing video games. There will be times when you go weeks without hanging out, but when you all get together, its like you were never separated.

When you're one of the guys, it will take time to find a partner who accepts your close bond with your friends. Being a girl who is comfortable hugging, lounging with, and being around other quite a few dudes a lot is a rare occurrence, and for many its a hard characteristic to accept. But, they come around and begin to understand your bond, and see how your relationship with your friends is important to you.

When you're one of the guys, you often become the mom friend of the group. You become the source of reason and safety. Your friends come to you for advice, and you care for them like they were your own brothers. You are the hardest person to approve of any girl they catch feelings for, because to you, no girl is good enough for them. At the same time, they look out just as much for you. You know they would come to your rescue when needed, and you rely on them for comfort and assurance. You admire them, and they admire you.

When you're one of the guys, you value things that seem so simple and small. Car rides, listening to albums, laughing about drunken mishaps, and making good fun of each other are priceless memories. You'll call each other names, and nobody will take it seriously. At the end of the day, you know that no matter what happens, they will always be your friends, and nothing would come between that.

When you're one of the guys, you'll always have your fan club. They are the truest friends you will ever have, and they will give you the best memories and experiences of your life. Being one of the guys isn't an insult or a problem; it's a gift. You have some of the most loyal friends anyone could ask for.

Thanks guys. I love you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
