"Enjoy your season of singleness...." We've all heard this line before, whether it was "enjoy life while you can" or "just do you; you're in college." There's always different ways of saying it. The days of being single are also the days to be spontaneous and selfish - being able to say "yes" to anything without having to think about a significant other.
For some of us, we could say being single doesn't bother us at all. No thanks, I got this. I don't need a man to live a happy life. For some of us, we absolutely hate this subject. Maybe some of us went through a really hard break up, or maybe have never been in a real relationship. Some of us might have problems at home that have caused us to feel unloved. Some of us just have a desire for comfort.
Whatever your situation may be, let's be real, ladies. Whether we like it or not, if we check our hearts deeply enough, we all have this desire to be loved. We want to be fully known, protected, and fought for. We keep searching, our relationships fail, and no matter what we do, the love we keep finding doesn't satisfy us the way we hope.
This sometimes leads us to believe that there is something wrong with us. You think, "What is it about me that isn't good enough?" Or maybe you think there is no one out there that could possibly be as great as the guy you want. There couldn't possibly be a man in this world that will love you the way you want to be loved.
The good news is that there is someone who has been fighting for your love since the day you were born.
There is someone who has been relentlessly pursuing you, has been chasing after you no matter how many times you've run away. There's someone there that has been asking you to let him protect you and hold your hand through it all, even when you spit in his face and say that he is not good enough.
His name is Jesus.
Don't you see? Of course God wants you to be happy. He created you perfect in His image. He loved you at your absolute darkest hour and says that YOU are perfect. Can you imagine that? Think of everything you've ever done in your life that has caused you to stumble. Think of every thought you've ever had and still know that God wants YOU.
In our desire to be protected and fought for, Christ is the ultimate protector. "When you walk through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through the fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you." Isaiah 43:2
In our desire to be fully known and fully loved, God fulfills that as our creator. Ladies, this verse will change your life: "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depth of the earth." Pslam 139:13-15
Do you realize what that's saying? God knows everything about you. It is impossible to hide any thought, sin, crime, or embarrassing moment from Him. He knows you better than you know yourself and he still sees you as perfect.
So... while you are out there looking for love in a broken college town full of guys who are just "living their lives" and seeing how fast they can chug a beer or how many girls they can bring home this semester, there's a Holy and perfect God that wants you to love him. I promise His love is so much greater than any relationship you've ever experienced or will experience.
Does this mean you'll be single the rest of your life? Absolutely not. However, it does mean that you won't need a relationship to feel loved. You won't need a relationship to fill a void in your heart (that ultimately only God can fill, anyway). He has already planned your entire life and He wants to give you the absolute best. Why not let him take control and do His job?
