There is always some kind of viral challenge that is going around on the internet, like the "Try Not To Laugh Challenge" the famous "Ice Bucket Challenge" the 22 push-up challenge to raise awareness of PTSD and suicides of veterans. The list goes on but there have been many challenges that have put people in the hospital, endangered their health, or even worse killed them.
This year we already had teenagers putting laundry detergent in their mouths in what is called the "Tide Pod Challenge." It started off as a joke, but then people thought it was real, and then people started actually doing it and posting the challenge to YouTube.
These aren't curious little kids that see tide pods and it looks like candy, these are teenagers who should know better than to eat them.
So far the AAPCC has already recorded 39 incidents that came from eating these tide pods, they even issued out a warning telling people what we should already know to not do.
I personally don't think that tide pods should be taken off the shelf or banned because one that's how most of us do our laundry, why punish the rest of us just because some people thought it would be funny to taste one.
What I think we should be doing is educating others about the dangers of poison and teaching others what really happens to your body when you put a tide pod in your mouth.
Thankfully, it seems that YouTube is taking down any videos that may have the challenge in them, but will that stop teens from putting them in their mouth well we will see in due time.
Also, Amazon is stepping up too. They are removing any reviews advocating that people eat the tide pods, of course it wont stop people from asking questions about it, but it does seem to be a step in the right direction.
If we are going to do any sort of challenge, we should not only do a challenge that doesn't risk ones life we should do a challenge with meaning to it. Raise money for a charity, raise awareness of an important issue. You have the power of social media use it!
And for the love of God don't eat Tide Pods.
