When thinking about the future for your life, it requires a lot of advice from people. For example: when one is not sure what they want to do for themselves, they would most likely go to someone who has been through a lot to see if the choice they are making is a good one. There's a lot of factors when choosing what to do with their life. One factor can be, "What would be their budget?". That is a good question because most places are very expensive to live and the taxes are so high that it'll be hard to set a $300 limit when they want to live in an expensive city. Most people's dreams involve living in a big city where everything cost a big buck.
As for me, I decided to spend my spring break in D.C. with a group of outstanding students. The reason I did that is because I wanted to network with employers and see what life is like in the D.C. area. D.C. is a beautiful place where most dreams come true, if their dream is to work in a political office, this is the place to come to. When talking to people that were BGSU alum, they all said they just jumped in their car and drove to D.C. and they got lucky. If one were to do that now, it would be hard because the cost of living is very expensive. They say D.C. is the number one, "Most expensive place to live in America". Which is very surprising because when one would look outside some of these homes, they would not believe it cost over $2,000/ a month to live there, and that is just apartments and condos. One lady said she had to sell her car because of the price of the parking spot, which was outside of her home, was $300 a month. Actually, most people who live and work in D.C. sold their car and just take the subway train to work. If they need to go to a far destination, they will get a rental car.
My dream is to write for people, especially political figures. Going to D.C. allowed me to see what internships there were and to see if I really want to live in such a busy city. D.C. has a lot of opportunities, one would just have to really find it. The internship opportunities are endless, especially in places that I would have never thought that there would be internships at. Also, those internships have a lot of benefits, not only do they give experience, they can also pay for traveling and help one find a place to live. One internship has many offices all over the country, so if they need someone in a whole other state, they will fly that person there.
When thinking about the future, think about what you want for yourself and if it's even worth it. If it's something you want to do, nothing is stopping you but you. Push yourself to get what you want especially if it's going to help you in the long-run.
