Sometimes life just seems to spiral out of control. Sometimes, the little road map you laid out doesn't quite work out. Yeah, I know. I just spewed out a ton of cliches we all hear, especially at this phase of life. But, I think that sometimes, all the things that seem to be so wrong right now we will realize were oh so right later on. That things seem to be going wrong in so many ways when in fact, they are going exactly how they need to for you. Now, that is not to say bad things don't happen. Being a victim of a crime is a great example of something going wrong and what happened isn't right. However, that doesn't mean it will turn out bad. In fact, it might make you a warrior for a cause you never knew existed. It might make you realize how strong you are or just how awesome the people around you really are. In fact, I think that when things go wrong, I realize how much is right in my life.
Now, this article is very clearly coming from a privileged white perspective and I recognize that. My struggles, while real and difficult, are very different and sometimes easier to overcome because of my societal status. However, I still think the point should be made that any person can make the world better and call out those who are making it worse. In fact, it's those who empower others that really do the difficult work that changes things. It's those who see all the wrong in the world and have a passion for making it right. This brings me back to my original point; life throws a lot of crap, a lot of things 'going wrong' in order to bring some 'things going right' somewhere. If you take a situation, and honestly realize how bad it is, and feel all of the awful feelings that come at you and still find it in you to make a positive change, that is the ultimate sign of maturity and grace you can show others. In fact, when everything seems wrong, I challenge you to not just smile and move on or think of the 'positives' or whatever stuff they tell us in school, but I want you to think about what would have made that situation different and better. I want you to see what you can change to prevent these situations from happening again. The issue isn't always being being positive or getting run over, but sometimes it's standing up and changing the wrongs that continue to plague life.
