Believe it or not, once you hit that prime age of 15 or 16, your parents start harping on you to get a job. Get some experience, so that later in life you have something to put on your resume. Most people start with food service or retail just for the experience in order to move on higher and higher up. By the time you get to college then you can start working as an intern of a company or just expanding what you are good at. That is the truth to a college student.
There are pros and cons to working all summer long just so you will not have to as much during the school year, since let's face it, school and your grades are your life. You have to study, get involved on campus, etc. Be social but then also get down to the real work to pass those classes! So where does working come into the mix? Summertime.
Working every single day can make it so you save enough money to pay for school (as some people have to do) as well as just to make it through the year. The only ample amount of time would be during the summer because it lasts about 3 months long. Now there are pros and cons that can be affiliated with working during the summer.
Pros.
MAKE THAT MONEY. No seriously, that is exactly what you are doing. Being a hard-working, determined individual to meet your goal that either you or your parents set for that summer. It's insane how much money can be made depending on what kind of job you have.
GAINING EXPERIENCE. When an interviewer asks how you spent your summer, you can gladly explain that you have been working as an intern at a marketing firm gaining experience and being able to state that you are willing to commit to that, just as an example. When looking for a permanent job it is important that you have some experience in the field that you want to be working in other than just your classes itself.
Cons.
NO SOCIAL LIFE. Now, saying that you have absolutely no social life probably is not the case but you can not just go out and party every single night with your friends. You have to remember that the next morning you have to wake up to go to work a full day. Now that's something that is not fun.
NO REPULSIVE CHOICES. For example, you can not just decide to go to Mexico on the weekend with friends -- you have to request days off 2 weeks in advance. Unless someone can cover your shift, that is not happening. Making memories is harder when you are constantly working and have no time for things other than work and sleep. It gets exhausting.
Regardless, there are many more pros and cons that could be possible, but here are a couple of the main ones. Choosing how much you want to work and how much money you want to make can be hard, important life decisions that need to be made.
