When I was a little boy, I always went to church and I would always learn what to do in the case that the Christian community would be persecuted for our religion. I would always hear how Christians were murdered for their religion in other countries and that I should be thankful that I have the freedom of religion, which I am. As I grow older, I haven't felt any persecution for being a Christian in my community, due to being in the bible belt south, but America as a whole is still pro-christian with the minor aggression from people who have an issue with the community of the church, but that is another discussion for another time. The question that has been on my mind lately is what should the Christian community should do when another religion could be on the verge of persecution in America. This religion is Islam, and recently, I am beginning to get nervous for people who practice this religion.
Now I want to believe that this is just big talk, and that Trump is not really going to place every muslin in a massive database. This makes me feel that people that practice the religion of Islam is about to have big brother watching them at all times with the constant fear of another ISIS attack. Trump began discussing about the issues of the Muslim community in December, but after the Orlando attack, Trump now has the ammunition to push this database when he becomes president. Now Trump has back tracked some of his statements, as he does with many of his statements, and expressed that this was not his idea. Allegedly, Trump told Yahoo News that he would consider setting a register for Muslim-Americans, and the possibility of mandated identification cards. NBC reported asked Trump if this would be similar to Nazi Germany with the Jewish community, a frustrated Trump stood up and stated, "you tell me". When being compared to Nazi Germany, saying, "you tell me", is not the response I want from my president.
So what are we to do? I don't want history to repeat such as the Jew's persecution in Germany and other European countries. I believe that in these times, we as a Christian community need to understand that God loves everyone and that someone that does not believe in what we believe in does not make them our enemy. We are to love people no matter who they are and what they do. I understand that we are afraid of what we do not know, but watching people become victims to persecution would not be the calling of our God. I believe that the Christian community can rise against this threat, if this does become a part of our great country. I believe in everyone, no matter what they believe in to come together as one to stop oppression of someone's personal freedom of religion. This is the land of the free, and we should be called to defend the freedom of all the people that live among us.
