When Parenting Is Done Wrong

Because not every person thinks of the consequences.

I will be the first to say that children are not something I want, but that is not set in stone due to the cuteness of holding sleepy babies. With this being said, I am against the fact that some people enjoy to procreate and then do not take the time to care for a person that is dependent on them for quite some time. These little people just love the ones that care for them, usually their mother, and they do not understand that their care is vitally important due to the upbringing. These people sit here and mistreat the things that they create solely because they do not have the patience to take care of someone needy and not independent.

A few days ago in Wentzville, MO, a young child has his poor life on the line for the fact that his parents did not take the time to be patient with a crying infant. His father, Robert Burnette, decided that his crying child was being more than ridiculous so he took matter into his own hands as he shook the poor child, shoved his fingers down the throat, and threw him face first into the bed. While this was going on, the mother sat there and watched the whole thing happen while a roommate observed also. Neither attempted to stop the situation, or call the police in that instant, which is the most upsetting thing as a poor child was being attacked by his father.

The most hurtful thing with this is that the father has had a violent background, even with his own family. His parents have said that he has attempted to kill his own brother in various ways over the years. In addition to this he also spent time in mental health institutions for his severe anger problems. As Burnette told the detectives, he knew that he became too violent with the baby and that was that. Why does he know but not do anything about it?

The mother was then interviewed and did not seem motherly at all as she referred to the baby as a child and not by his name. Police have said she did not seem too emotional, and faked crying until the officer left the room. She at one point went parent's home, but never asked them for help because she did not want to confront Burnette at the time. She would simply rather stay with Burnette than risk her father harming Burnette.

The baby has now sustained severe brain injuries, and the doctors have said he is in critical condition. Both parents have been charged with child neglect and will both go to court on November 15. The roommate has not been charged with anything as of right now. The problem with this situation is that people do not take the time and effort to care for something, or even ponder if their partner is someone they could possibly raise a child with. These people are just going around having unprotected sex, without thinking of the consequences that could possibly happen.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
