When you think of "best friend" you think of that friend that's been with you from the start. They've been there for the good, the bad and the questionable decisions that turned into forever memories.
They're the one that was there for your first kiss in preschool because duh, they had the same one... and you both ended up with mono, you did it together as gracefully as possible. They're the one who would walk to your house in the dead of summer because you were codependent and just because you didn't have your license you weren't going to let yourselves be separated for that long. I mean let's be realistic. They're the ones who will sit with you while you cry after your worst nightmare came true. Not saying a word, just always being there. They're the ones who would listen to your side of the story when something went wrong and once they were done listening they'd tell you how stupid you are but they'll always love you anyways. That's the beauty of a best friend. They tell you what you don't want to hear and you'd be mad if it came from anyone else, but a true best friend wants you to be happy and you know they're only saying this because you need to hear it.
Then the day comes... college starts and you part ways. I mean just physically of course, you still talk daily, text constantly, FaceTime dates become a regular date and you get in a new routine. Yes, you might be separated, but they're always there in their own ways. Before you know it, you both start talking about the new friends you're making and the things you're doing with them. You start adventuring with these new friends and suddenly you realize you found your new best friends. Not replacing your old, life-long best friend, but the "next phase of life" best friend. You're discovering the person you want to be now that you're out on your own, while remembering where you come from.
Once you both realize things are getting serious between your best friend and their new best friend, you know it's time to meet them. What kind of a best friend would you be if you didn't? Obviously, you're happy they found someone to vent to, adventure with and just have a good friend in their new city but you still know you have to make sure they're doing a good job at being a best friend to your best friend. Fast forward, you meet and things couldn't have gone any better. Your best friend did a good job and this new friend is the perfect addition to your friendship. It's the greatest feeling in the world when the people you love end up loving each other too.
Old met new and new met old. Yes, growing up does change some things in life, but it doesn't change true friendships. They're around for the long haul and that's irreplaceable.
