I find myself thinking [and saying] multiple times a day, “I don’t know, I’m just going to wing it!”
Whether it’s an assignment, my articles, a test, a presentation, or eyeliner, I find myself constantly living by the mantra just wing it.
I recently realized that it’s not the end of the world that I honestly have no idea what I’m doing.
Why?
*Cue Sam Smith*
I know I’m not the only one.
You see, I’m not trying to knock down the organized people who have the next 10 years of their lives planned out. I know plenty of them…I envy them. I mean, I don’t even know my plan for the next 10 minutes. My stress levels would decrease significantly if I didn’t put off everything until the last minute.
But you know what? That is OK. Winging it is OK.
In all honesty, we as humans are all kind of just winging it...every last one of us.
It’s natural for us to want to know what is going to happen exactly when it’s going to happen. Whether it be your plans after graduation, the next date you go on, or even the guac to burrito ratio on your order the next time you go to Chipotle, we want to know what it’s all going to be before we experience it, which is normal, but absolutely impossible.
But with these anxieties about what the future holds comes great appreciation for the experience. Have you ever had a plan that turned out better than you expected? A time where you just kind of…I don’t know…'wung' it? I know I have.
Think of the time there was a quiz in a class and you had no idea about. Maybe it was a pop quiz or it seemed to slip through the cracks of your mind dedicated to song lyrics and movie quotes. Nonetheless, you impressed yourself with the knowledge you already knew and possibly…got an A?
That’s winging it!
Or, according to my roommates, when you are at a restaurant and the waiter/waitress comes to your table for the second [or third] time and you still don’t know what you want, so you pick the first thing that comes to your mind and it becomes your new favorite dish.
That’s winging it!
My favorite [and most delicious] type of winging it is when, out of the blue, you decide to ditch whatever plans you have and go to Casey’s Bar and Restaurant on East Joppa Road for some Old Bay wings…trust me…it’s worth it.
So, if you're like me, winging it is second nature and like anything else, it has it's downfalls but it also has it's perks.
Always remember:
It's OK to just wing it.
