When It Is 2016 And We Are Still Objectifying Women

Companies and their outdated tactics on promoting businesses

I don't consider myself to be an extreme feminist by any stretch of the imagination. I grew up in a traditional Italian family where generally the women held the household roles and the men worked. Of course, my immediate family developed more 21st Century ideals such as both the mother and father worked and the father did not leave the mother with ALL of the household chores on her own, but they shared a good amount. (I appreciate my parents for teaching me that I can be independent and demand that certain things should be shared in the home.) To make a long story short, my morals are generally as follows: women are not an object that is used to represent something else.

As a quick disclaimer, my workplace does not use this company. And I also tried to take the bulk of the company out of the picture to protect their integrity.

While at work the other day, a truck pulled up outside. It was a cleaning business of some sort and their truck was on the other side. The art on the truck was clearly a woman's legs, wearing a short skirt and high heels, stepping on a clean carpet. Interesting, to say the least.

What I am trying to imply here (as nicely as possible) is "WHY DO THEY HAVE TO USE A WOMAN'S LEGS TO PROMOTE THEIR COMPANY OF CLEANING CARPETS?!!?" Phew, now that I said it, let's talk about it. So many companies use women as an object to promote their products (think beer, cologne, cars). If you can recall not too long ago, a car company actually made a woman turn into a car, revealing that the car is so sexy and smooth like the woman herself. I can comfortably assume that these companies are headed by men because any woman in her right mind would not use her own body to sell products. But why do companies think that this is tasteful and appropriate? Do they want to just sell to men? Because I know for a fact that I would not use nor buy products from the company posted in this article or the various others around the world who use woman's bodies as their campaigns. Companies need to be creative and come up with better ways to promote themselves or start paying all of the women in the world for using OUR bodies as their objective art. This is 2016 people, stop objectifying women and start using your brains to realize that it is now tacky and outdated. Women are not just objects. We are way stronger than any of these companies anticipate and we are not afraid to show it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
