I personally think that stepparents do not get the credit and praise that they deserve. To take in another person's child and raise them as your own is one of the most selfless things a person can do. To take in two independent and highly opinionated female teenagers is an act of courage.
You entered our small family of three with no children of your own and grew with us while pushing us to be the best that we can be. You attended my high school orientation. Moved me in and out of the freshman dorms, TWICE. Moved me into my first apartment. You were there for my first car and first car accident. You were there for my first job. You were there when I was diagnosed with depression. When I am having a difficult time with life, you are also one of the first people I run to to talk too. And you are also one of the first people I run too when I am dirt poor. Even though our relationship didn't start off smoothly (that is an understatement), life would not be the same without you. I could go on forever about how much I love you, even when my actions show otherwise. Thank you for all the firsts and fulfilling a role you did not have too. Thank you for loving my mom but most importantly, thank you for being there.
When God gave me a stepfather, he showed me that strong men do whatever it takes to keep a family together. When God gave me a stepfather, he gave me someone who I can run to for every vehicle and mechanical problem in the world. When God gave me a stepfather, he gave me thousands of memories that I will cherish to I die. Thank you for making my small family whole and giving us the best addition. I cannot wait to have you walk me down the aisle.
"He never treated me like I was a package deal--something or someone he would have to accept if he wanted my mom in his life. I wasn't a burden in his eyes, I was a bonus." -Ashley Stock
