Our generation is characterized by our ability to be tech savvy, and inability to communicate with people face to face. We are seen as a generation that has more of a focus on how many Instagram likes our photos receive, rather than how many new people we can meet. We are seen as the generation that doesn’t know how to be self sufficient, and that relies too heavily on our cell phones. We are sometimes seen as misguided, not having a plan, and being lazy. If we step back and break it down step by step, us millennials are not lazy or misguided. We are hungry: hungry for change.
We are the millennial generation. Yes, we live within our phones, we count likes on Instagram, and tweet our latest adventure, but we are also working to change the world. We are keeping in touch with our foreign friends half way across the world, building connections, and forming friendships. We are able to learn more about the world, simply because we have the technology to connect us with the world. While our journeys might be remarkably different from that of our parents, you’ve got to remember they are our journeys to be had.
We as generation Y, are known to be creators, entrepreneurs, innovators, and so much more. We are seen as lazy, but we just don’t know how to feed this hunger within us. That is something that makes us such a significant generation. We hunger for more, and you bet we are going to work to fulfill that hunger we feel deep inside of us. We are story changers, as are a lot of generations, but we are also willing to take leaps of faith, go out on a limb, and just do. “Carpe Diem” as it were, seize the day.
It is okay if you don’t fully understand us, the millennials. Sometimes, we don’t even understand us. We just recognize this need for more, for change, for something bigger and better.
We are a generation that grew up in the world of social media, but just because we chose to express ourselves within “selfies” doesn’t make us narcissistic, we are simply expressing ourselves in the ways we know how. Social media is our platform to make our voices heard, to share our ideas, to show the world what we are passionate about, and maybe one day change it.
Over all, we aren’t saying our generation is better than any other, we are just simply different. We are hungry, and don’t always equate money with success, but rather we equate success with happiness and experiences. We simply want to be accepted, not judged.
We are the millennial generation, and we are proud of who we are.
