We millennials and young people are often labeled as lazy, self-centered and rude.
This is, of course, a huge generalization, and we are probably stereotyped just as much as any other generation, but let's not let that define us. When we use those same words to describe our peers, how can we expect to change the stereotype?
We can’t.
But we will, and it doesn’t have to be for a point to be proven. Let's do it for us. Not for the people who don’t believe in us, but for each other.
We are artists, we are engineers, we are athletes, we are writers, we are doctors and nurses, we are entrepreneurs, we are explorers, we are learners, we are gardeners, we are designers, we are chefs, we are fighters, we are mechanics, we are teachers and the list goes on indefinitely.
We can be change-makers. We are the generation of the capable, and we need to start now.
Don’t wait until everything is “just right” because at that rate nothing will ever get done. When I look around at the students, at the young moms and dads, at the ones who feel lost; I see potential. I see people who can change the world. I see people with their whole lives ahead of them.
Making a difference and positively impacting the world doesn’t have to be a huge. Start in your hometown and move from there.
We, millennials and young people, can be lazy, self-centered and rude but only if we choose to be.
