Yes, Aesthetics Are Overrated Because Life Doesn't Follow Aesthetic Guidelines

Over time, I've realized that my life is messy and unpredictable. Sometimes I spontaneously go to the beach or take a random pic of my dog and I want all of these pics on my Instagram.

Listen, I know it's a curse.

Sure, you truly want that latte, but you're also thinking how great that latte will look on your Instagram feed. You are picturing it with the VSCO C1 filter, right?

I know.

Albeit hard to admit, but tis the pathetic life we live.

If you scroll through Pinterest in search of flattering photo poses to duplicate at the beach later with friends, then stop right there.

A good time can't be duplicated, it just happens. Do you think the photos we find that look so genuine and candid were posed?

No.

Or maybe?

It's hard to tell, but I guess it doesn't really matter.

What does matter is that your life doesn't need to be validated by the number of likes on your Instagram pictures or whether your aesthetic matches the previous post.

As self-explanatory as this sounds, I feel that it isn't said enough.

Often times, we do things for the look and not for the enjoyment. It's almost that we have to prove to the world that we are having fun instead of actually having fun.

Yet, where's the fun in that?

I'm no expert on your life, and perhaps there is no tangible evidence. However, I can guarantee you'd be happier living your life and posting a picture on the gram only when necessary.

Sometimes I find myself refraining from posting a picture because it doesn't match my aesthetic.

Over time, I've realized that my life is messy and unpredictable. Sometimes I spontaneously go to the beach or take a random pic of my dog and I want all of these pics on my Instagram.

Should I not post it because it doesn't match? Absolutely not. Your aesthetic can be messy.

In fact, you don't have to have an aesthetic at all. There's so many rules in life, why do we have to have rules on Instagram too?

Now, I don't look down on peeps with rockin' Instagram themes because if you have the time and lifestyle then go for it!

Just please don't feel wrong for posting what you want.

Instagram is a way to share events and people in our lives, through photos, but it doesn't define you.

Do what makes YOU happy, not what will make others THINK that you're happy!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
