No matter our views, each of us have read an article or have seen a comment on this whole red cup drama. We have seen the posts of how Starbucks “hates Jesus” or how they are taking Christmas out of their company. Let me reassure you right now, none of this is true. So I decided to compile a list of thoughts from me and others I've heard about this whole fiasco.
1. Starbucks still enjoys Christmas.
I
have seen countless articles and posts about how Starbucks is taking
Christmas out of their company and how they are SO EVIL! Jokes on
you though. Has anyone looked at what kind of coffee Starbucks is
still currently selling? It's called Christmas Blend. Let me
repeat that: CHRISTMAS Blend. Starbucks still supports the Holidays
if you actually look into it.
2. Tricking the employees doesn't change anything.
I kid you not, people have told the employees that their name is “Merry Christmas” so they have to write it on the cup. Having them write that will not change the design of the cup or how the Starbucks corporation feels as a whole, it simply gives you, what you think is, a small “victory” throughout the day.
3. Boycotting is a no-no.
You boycotting Starbucks on their coffee simply hurts you, not them. They may lose a customer, but you on the other hand lose Starbucks Coffee... which is the real loss? (Answer: coffee)
4. The cup.
If you look, the cup has never had anything but winter-related items. I can promise you that eight pound, six ounce Baby Jesus was never on the cup. It makes me sad, as a Christian, to see that people are making such a big deal out of this.
5. The reasoning behind the design.
Looking into it, Starbucks has a reason for this plain red cup. They wanted it to be a blank canvas for each and every customer. The employees said they have always seen people doodling on their cups after finishing their coffee. Due to this, Starbucks made a decision to let everyone create their own story, no matter their beliefs or religion.
Again, as a Christian, all of this drama has made me look closer into the real reason of Christmas. There are so many other problems in our world that we could put our energy and time into like poverty, and those who don't even have family to spend the Holidays with. It is not about trees, snowmen, snowflakes, and definitely not wintery items printed on a cup. I think it's really neat that this company is branching out and becoming more diverse, showing that they accept every belief, religion, and choice of winter items. So next time you get your red cup, why don't you create your own story on there and start the change in our society that it so desperately needs.
Anyways, we can't blame Starbucks when they weren't even the ones who started the red cup movement: we blame Toby Keith, his darn catchy lyrics, and partiers all over the U.S.
