Recently, a map of the United States was released showing that if women did not vote in this upcoming election that Donald Trump would beat Hillary Clinton by a huge margin. This prompted a new hashtag saying “Repeal the 19^th” to start trending all over social media. The 19^th is referring to the 19^th amendment of the constitution that granted women the right to vote. Trump supporters started an uproar saying that we should just repeal the 19^th amendment so that Trump would be able to win the election.

Let me just start by saying “Are we serious?” To take away the right for women to vote because someone posted a picture that Trump would win if we don’t vote. Okay, yes there are women voting for Hillary because she would be the first women president, but that does not mean we should repeal our right to vote. That is like me saying well if we didn’t have men vote then Hillary would win or what if we just went back to the way it was before and just have landowners vote?

We are constantly wanting to better America, but if we repeal this right for women doesn’t that just bring us back to how it was before? Didn’t women fight for their lives to have women get the right to vote? The fact that this hashtag was even trending is incredibly unbelievable. It scares me that people actually think this is a good idea. Women not only deserve the right to vote, but also deserve equal pay that we have been fighting for too. I really hope that this is not what our country is coming to.
