Born and raised as an only child to a now 25-year Army Veteran and full-time hard working mother, I have always seen what it was like to work and make sacrifices for the things I want in life. Approximately four years ago, my family and I moved into our custom-built home in Canyon Lake, Texas which, I had the opportunity of helping design. It was through the design, as well as construction process of the home-building process that I knew the architecture and development field were my final career goals. Having the opportunity to receive not one, but two degrees from Texas A&M University would be an incredible honor. Thus, I made the decision to continue my education at Texas A&M.

The reasons for my application span deeper than receiving a second degree from Texas A&M University. My application means much more than another accomplishment to hang on my wall. This opportunity to continue my education means starting traditions and creating a legacy for my family and my future family. This May of 2017, I officially became the first and only in my family to have graduated from college. Through this Master's opportunity, not only do I plan on starting traditions for my future family, but I hope to break the negative stigma of women in the development, architectural and construction industries. Educated and motivated women are an astonishing asset to any company, or field, and through my Master’s at Texas A&M, I hope to prove that.

Furthermore, I hope to be a role-model for my fellow Latinx community. We are no longer statistics. I seek to prove to my community, as well as others, that through hard work and dedication, we, as Hispanics and Latinos, may accomplish anything we put our minds to. Latinos and Hispanics, often times, fall into categories of low levels of education. Through this Master's program, I wish to start a new statistic and veer from the uneducated statistics. Not only will others benefit from my education, but my future children can benefit as well. I wish to show my children and my fellow Latinx/Hispanic community that through God, education, and hard work anything is possible.

With the aid and education of this Master's program, I also intend on working for a non-profit which develops and provides subsidized housing for underprivileged and impoverished communities. Many times, Section-8 and Low-Income housing lie in high crime, dirty, and unappealing locations. However, I believe I can aid these issues and provide aesthetically pleasing housing for those in need. Moreover, I also plan to start my own architecture/ development company.

B.B. King once said, “The beautiful thing about education is that no one can take it away from you”. These words have resonated with me for as long as I can remember, and I have carried them as motivation for many years. Ever since I was a young girl, I have always been driven to make my goals a reality, and to dream big. No matter what struggles I may face, I know that I will always have my education to back me up. There is something so beautiful about learning something new each and every day and I cannot wait to see what the future holds.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
