What is in your carry on? Often times when we go to an airport we forget things or find ourselves having to buy extra things to make the many delays that are to come more bearable. Airports are ridiculously expensive for this reason and if you are not an expert flyer it is hard to choose where to even begin. So, here is what I have in my carry on, packed and ready to go for this Spring Break, take a peek!

Gum and snacks

Flights can be long and tiring, but having a few small snacks such as a granola bar or a bag of chips is great to have on hand. Gum is always the key to popping your ears from the pressure of the increasing altitude.

Good Book

The best way to kill time on a flight is to bring a good book along and block out all the noise around you. A Kindle is easy to travel with and gives a lot of options in case you are a fast reader and want to bring multiple books along with you.

Laptop

Movies and TV shows can be easily purchased and downloaded to watch later on your computer in order to entertain you during the flight. Also a laptop is good to have if you are a student traveling or have things to do for work.

Headphones

Typically, during a flight, listening to music is very helpful to me to keep me calm. Noise canceling headphones are the best way to limit the loud noise of the plane and patrons around you. By bringing your own comfortable headphones you don’t have to buy the crappy $5 ones they sell to you that only work for about an hour.

Change of Clothes

My mom always tells me, better to be safe than sorry to be over prepared than under prepared. Sometimes suitcases can be misplaced and take a day or two to arrive to where you are, therefore packing an extra change of clothing a smart idea in case this ever occurs.

Large Scarf

Bringing along a big scarf that can double as a blanket is a great way to look stylish yet stay warm during your flight. In the past I have carried around a paper thin blanket that never kept me warm, but now that I have discovered that.

Toiletry pouch

Aside from packing all of your essential toiletry items in your suitcase, be sure to include a small pouch of items such as: face wipes, make-up powder, headache reliever, tooth brush and tooth past, tissues, small lotion, and chap stick.

Eye mask

My music typically puts me right to sleep, so an eye mask helps me stay asleep when my seat neighbor wants to have the window open during a morning flight and the rising sun is blinding.

Portable Charger

With all the technology we have today, it is a good idea to bring along a portable charger in case of emergencies. Traveling takes a lot of time and you never know when you might not have access to an outlet to charge your cell phone, iPad, Kindle or laptop.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
