What Your Jersey Area Code Says About You
The Independent

New Jersey, New Jersey, New Jersey. The one state where you get the best of everything from the beaches, lakes, food, television, people who stay true to their culture— beautiful people I might add— all while being in close radius of the Big Apple. You seriously cannot go wrong when it comes to anything Jersey, so don't bother trying to diss us or call out the stereotypes because we've already heard it all. It won't phase us, so it's your call if you want to attempt trying.

Of course, all parts of Jersey are different. Yes, we might have debates over the name of a special type of ham but clearly, we're amazing because why else would we have reality shows filmed here all the time throughout the state?

There's always the great debate of North, Central, and South Jersey but that's because we have unmatchable pride. We all have something unique to bring to the table so that explains some key differences that allow you to fit your own niche Jersey stereotype based on where you live.

Here's what your Jersey area code says about you:

201 & 551...

Let's be honest— all you Hudson and Bergen County people consider yourself wannabe New Yorkers. Just because you guys see the skyline of the city best, doesn't make you entirely eligible to consider yourself a New Yorker. That's just as crazy as how high your taxes are, but it's OK because you have MetLife Stadium. We love MetLife. We appreciate MetLife. Thanks to this venue we're able to live in the same surrounding towns as professional athletes, so really, it's all good.

973 & 862...

Home of "The Sopranos" mobster, Tony Soprano— as well as some iconic and well-known celebs like Frankie Valli, Queen Latifah, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Tom Cruise, and Kevin Spacey just to name a small few. If we're being really honest, it seems like every Italian-Jersey native resides here, including the fabulous Snooki. Don't be surprised if you see someone proudly driving around with a C.I.V magnet on their vehicle, either. Real talk— Fairfield, NJ even has an Italian flag Snapchat geo-filter.

732 & 848...

The heart and soul of South Jersey, which infamously gained worldwide recognition thanks to MTV's iconic reality series, "Jersey Shore" while still proudly representing the main shore points of the Garden State. Locals hate prom weekend until Labor Day weekend because of "invaders" whom of which cause an absurd amount of traffic on the parkway and bridge, also known as bennies.

908...

North-West ish part of Jersey like Union County, Somerset County, Middlesex County, Hunterdon County, Warren County, Morris County, then random parts of Monmouth and Ocean County. I'm probably missing some counties but it's not my fault your area code is so scattered. Honestly, when I think 908 I think old money, historical reserves, a fling I had years ago who lived down the shore, farmland, and lakes— please get it together. I'm sure you guys are nice, though.

609...

The 609 is south Jersey but some of the 609ers are totally pushing it. If you aren't from the Atlantic City or Long Beach Island area that means you're from the realms of Princeton or Trenton and that's exactly why you're pushing your Jersey title. I don't care if you want to fight me on this, I'm right and I'm sure plenty of people will back me up on this.

856...

Do you guys actually consider yourself from New Jersey? Just like those foreign parts of the 609, I'm not really sorry about saying this but you guys are Philadelphia. I'm not saying that you aren't totally worthy or glorious Jersey title but facts are facts. You're closer to Philadelphia than you are New York or the beach— so that in itself should say something. If you have to describe to people how close in radius to Philly you are after revealing you're from the Garden State, well— sorry.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
