What Your Favorite Video Game Genre Says About You

Whether you are a casual gamer or you spend your weekends at MLG competitions button-mashing your way into some serious cash, every gamer has their favorite, go-to video game genre. Here is what your favorite video game genre says about you.

Arcade.

If you are an arcade-type of person, you are most likely sitting comfortably on the Crumbly Coast of Candy Crush, chillin', but iPhone games are the farthest you'll go in the gaming realm. You enjoy the mindless strategy behind classics like Pac-Man and Tetris, but can't really get behind multi-player platforms. This way, you can spend your time playing in peace and quiet which is, arguably, always better than arguing with twelve year olds online. Can I get a hallelujah for some quality me-time? Amen.

First Person Shooters (FPS).

You love a good explosion. You are probably the "alpha male" of your group; you are all about standing your ground -- intellectually as well as physically. Whether you are camping out in CoD or stuck in the Bungie world of Halo playing alongside Master Chief, we can always find you shooting your way to the top.

Simulation.

SimCity, Minecraft, RollerCoaster Tycoon, or even Viva Piñata: pick your poison, you Type-A personality. Maybe you are all about construction simulation -- or perhaps you enjoy controlling the lives of those in-game. Either way you love running the show. You have been described as a perfectionist, overachiever, or both. Your town (or character) has to look perfect and if they don't you are prone to stressing out about it. Just relax and drown some Sims or something, crazy-pants. That seems to ease your mind most of the time.

Role-Playing Games (RPGs)

Turn based or real time, you love it all. Fantasy RPGs like the Final Fantasy franchise (FFX is the best; do not argue with me) and survival horror, post-apocalyptic games like Fallout give you LIFE. Let's not even get you started on MMORPGs... You adore storyline based content. Video games, to you, are about escaping from reality for a moment to something –– dare I say it –– cooler. You're a dreamer; you know how to connect the dots and really see things for what they are. You are motivated by tasks (check your journal) and love pushing the envelope to find solutions to problems in-game and IRL (how are we going to defeat the Stormcloaks).

Sports

Look at you! You're a real "man's man," aren't ya? You're a hands-on type who can appreciate high performance, and you like being praised for your skills. You are confident -- aggressively so -- and committed to the game. Your persistence and positivity gets you through those tough quarters and makes you the best team player.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
