Living in a college dorm is an experience that no one can forget

8 Things You Will And Will Not Miss About Dorm Life

Move-in day of college is a day you'll never forget. You fill your room with all of the essentials: comforter, clothes, mini-fridge, as well as hanging your personal touches including pictures with your family, lights, tapestry, etc. Although the room is old and dusty, it has so much potential for memories (the good and the bad). After spending nine months in your dorm, here are a few things you will and will not miss about dorm life.

1. You will miss: the location

Dorms are in the most convenient places on campus. They are near the best dining halls, the student union, and most importantly, they are a quick walk to class so you can roll out of bed for your 9:00 am (or 11:30 because some days those are even hard to wake up for).

2. You will not miss: the noise

It never fails that every time you are about to fall asleep, your neighbor begins blasting music or seems to have the whole dorm in their room. LET ME SLEEP.

3. You will not miss: community bathrooms

Sometimes you just need a relaxing bath with a LUSH Cosmetics Bath

Bomb and some Adele, but in reality, you get to come home to cold water in the narrow shower with the curtain constantly clinging to you.

4. You will miss: your glam squad

Regardless the event, someone has an outfit for that. Also, there is always someone to help a girl out when it comes to hair and makeup.

5. You will not miss: limited space

The dorm may seem like enough space for you and your roommate, but as the semester continues, the more room items and how much clothes you have will double or triple. That means no room for activities.

6. You will miss: meal swipes

We all say that we’re sick of eating at the dining halls and that we're excited to have a kitchen so we can cook on our own, but we aren’t chefs and would much rather have endless options of food.

7. You will not miss: checking in after 9:00pm

The struggle to find your student ID in order to check you and your friend in after a night of going-out-on-the-town is real and trying to pull off that 5-minute, pretend to be sober, conversation with your RA takes talent.

8. You will miss: your support system

All of the people you've met in the past nine months that have gotten you through the mental breakdowns from exams, the breakups, last-minute road trips, ice cream runs, and just nights staying up talking in the Rec Room. No one will be there for you like your friends in the dorm.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
