What You Should Know Before Getting A Corgi

If it wasn't already obvious, yes I have a corgi and he is the bomb. But before getting Kylo (I am a Star Wars nerd) my fiancé and I did a lot of research on what to expect. My fiancé has always wanted a corgi since he was young, so this was a dream come true for him! We fully knew what these dogs personalities were like and what the breed was like in general. Corgis within the last few years have become really media sensationalized, so people get them because they are adorable and love what they see on the Internet. This starts to create a problem though.

So many people don't do their research when it comes to adopting or buying a corgi, then these poor corgis end up in a shelter because the owner didn't realize how much attention this breed really needs. Corgis are so spunky and have such high energy that they need constant walks and attention (like most puppies). But they are also herding dogs, which a lot of people don't really get how they act around people sometimes.

Corgis are known to nip at the heels, bark constantly and run around people in circles. Kylo does that on the daily for sure. The heel nipping is something we trained him not to do when he was a baby, but he still loves to bark and run around/away from us all the time. I totally expected this though. In an article I read before getting Kylo called, "So You Think You Want a Corgi" the author called out a lot of stuff I didn't realize before I picked up my fur child in May.

"That weather-resistant double coat comes with a price. Corgis shed a lot. I mean a lot. Most dogs shed, but double coated breeds blow coat once or twice a year, and the Corgi undercoat is very dense. " Seriously though, Kylo is only seven months old and he sheds like crazy, and that is just his under coat. He doesn't get his full coat in until between one and two.

Corgis are also the sassiest and most stubborn dog ever (okay maybe not ever but pretty close). Even though this type of personality can be frustrating to some, I find it pretty cute and funny. I can't tell you how many times Kylo has "talked back" to me. His favorite thing to do is shove toys under the couch and bark non stop at them. No matter how many times I say "no," he still shoves half of his little loaf of a body under there and screams.

But honestly, Corgis are the best dogs and they adjust so well to different areas. I have moved twice, travel three hours every so often and stay at my parents back home too. He always acts like his normal self on those occasions and is really great when it comes to getting used to new environments. They are also super friendly dogs, Kylo loves people and goes up to literally EVERYONE and EVERYTHING. They also are incredibly funny and love to FRAP aka, frantic or frenzied acts of random play (you definitely have to get up to date with corgi lingo too).

So if you want a Corgi, just know everything you can about the breed, because sadly a lot of them end up being put in shelters at young ages. They are incredibly intelligent and love to learn, so training them isn't as hard as you would think! Puppy classes are great for socializing them with other dogs too. They even offer herding classes for dogs in some places; that's like a Corgi's dream come true! Take them to open fields, walk them often and associate them with other dogs. You will have the fluffiest and derpiest bff of all time!

Always look into adopting older dogs if a puppy isn't for you!

Yes, Kylo is definitely the cutest.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
