What Would Christmas Be?

"It's the most wonderful time of the year"

This morning as I open my advent calendar and eat the chocolate that is inside, I think of things that Christmas would not be Christmas without. I think about what I have been doing each year for the past twenty years. Here are a few things that make me look forward to the holiday season:

The Music

While I do like some of the music that is played today, I prefer the older more original sounding music any day. Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, Brenda Lee, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, you name it. It is filled with variety.

The Sweets

Ever since I can remember, I have been making Christmas cookies with my mom, no boys allowed. It's a recipe that has been used for many years and I will be making copy of it when I start making them on my own. Decorating them is my favorite part even if I try way to hard with the sprinkles and eat the frosting instead of using it for its main purpose. They are just sweet enough and light enough to where you can get away with eating more than 5.

The Entertainment

I look forward to the ABC family 25 days of Christmas every year. Whenever Elf, the Grinch, Rudolph or Charlie Brown is on, you can find me glued to the television screen. Another personal favorite is a Christmas Story... "You'll shoot your eye out kid"

The Parades

I am a Radio City Rockettes super fan. The glitz, sophistication, and the dancing fascinate me. I know as soon as they do their pivot turns into the walks to get the big kick line that magic is about to happen. Their Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade performance never disappoints me. I also remember going to see the Christmas Spectacular live and that is something I will never forget.

For a few years now, I have been involved in Christmas parades myself. The dance studio I attended as a student and now teach at participate in two parades in one day! When I was a student I obviously danced, but now being a teacher I'm on the side lines. I love seeing the students now enjoy this as much as I did and still do.

Most importantly, Christmas would not be Christmas without spending time with friends and family. I love traveling. I love wrapping presents. I love watching people open presents. I love being around the people I care about the most. Wouldn't it be great to be in the holiday spirit all the time? No matter where you are this holiday, channel your inner child and enjoy every moment of it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
