What Would You Do?

We take so many things in life for granted.

What Would You Do?
Banksy

The morning has come and you open your eyes, realizing it's time to prepare for the day. You fix yourself a simple breakfast and slowly begin to wake yourself up with every bite, then the first sip of the first of many cups of coffee of the day, your soul starts to sputter and awake. You shed your pajamas and throw on the outfit of the day, and soon you are out the door to face the day, to face the world.

You decide to take a walk downtown, soon you find yourself walking the streets of downtown surrounded by skyscrapers and many sights that the city has to offer. As you turn the corner you see a big crowd stretching the length of the street and continues to grow at a rapid pace, as per the normal human instinct this has triggered your curiosity and so you walk closer in hopes to catch a glimpse of what is happening. After reaching the crowd, many people turn tail and run away while others quickly take their spot. You begin to slide and shift your way through the crowd, you then find yourself at the front and have a clear view of what has happened.

You look down and see a child, she can’t be older than seven years of age. Her little fragile body lay there helpless, hand seemed to be clutching her favorite little-stuffed horse. A paramedic and a man who claims to be a doctor are there, they both are on their knees trying to save this little girls life. The Doctor looks up at you and then looks to the crowd surrounding the area “She needs a new heart, I’m not sure she will make the trip to the nearest hospital. I need to do a heart transplant here, right now. Would anyone be willing? If no one does she will die here, in this street.”

You then hear an odd thing, something that you’ve never heard or experienced before. You hear silence, the crowd has fallen silent. You hear a few cries and whimpers but for the most part it remains silent.

You begin to think about your life, you realize how lucky you are. You have experienced making memories with your family, you have experienced the rush of having a first crush, the heart-stopping moment of having your first kiss. You were able to fall in love, you were able to experience the thrill of getting a job, the exciting moments of achieving the goals that you have set for yourself in your life. You have had the chance to cry, laugh and love each and every day.

This little girl will never have those experiences in her life, she still even has her childhood innocence. The world hasn’t had its chance to take it away from her, the world and life have yet to slap her in the face, to challenge her. She hasn’t had the chance to decide on what kind of person she wants to be or even become. She’ll never get to fall in love, never experience all the joys and sorrows that life has to offer. Her life has been cut short, or has it?

You have the chance to save this innocent little girl from Death’s cold clutches, what do you do? Are you willing to sacrifice yourself for this stranger, this little girl? Would you give up your life, in hopes that she would live a full and good life? There is no right or wrong answer, all I am asking is what would you do?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
