What I Wish I Knew As A High School Junior

High school ends, even though it feels like the end is a million years away.

What I Wish I Knew As A High School Junior

They tell you to make your memories and live in the moment, because these are the days we never get back. They are absolutely right. You do not realize how quickly your teenage years are diminishing until you get to your final days as a senior and think about all the things you wish you did. As a senior in this position, I relate heavily. Life is too short to look back on your past with regrets, so this is a list for the high school student with time left to make awesome memories.

Go to that party.

The world we live in today is so uncertain, and anything can happen. But that is no reason to live in fear. If anything, it should remind you that every minute is a minute worth living. Go to that party, and make some memories. Eventually, we look back at them all and smile because it made us who we are.

Kiss the person you've been tweeting about.

We spend so much of our time consumed by social media that we sometimes forget that there is a world outside of our phones. Believe me, when I say: kissing the boy or girl that has that incredible effect on you is something that movies are made of. Totally worth the chance and anything can happen.

Be okay with yourself always, but especially when you let yourself down.

Failing that test is not the end of your world, and your one mistake will not cost you your future as long as you bounce back. Success is determined by how well you handle failure and please know that it is absolutely possible to have everything you want in life and still stumble every now and then.

Take as many pictures as you can, because eventually you will want to remember those places and faces.

The people that surround you today might be redundant, but when you have to go without them, what was once so excessive and cyclical will be a sight for sore eyes. Growing up is hard, especially when you take for granted all of the people and things that made your home a home. When that familiarity is taken away, suddenly you will find yourself wishing you had it again. Take as many pictures of as many places and faces you can. It will bring you more comfort than you probably realize.

Be as kind to people as humanly possible.

Sometimes, in high school, we have bad days. For one reason or another, our world is momentarily crushed and we just cannot seem to find an ounce of joy in us. But please, please, please, wherever you go, whatever you do, do it with kindness. Even when you feel like absolute crap. Kindness makes any situation so much more pleasant.

Take every chance you can to tell your mom or dad you love them.

More than you realize, your parents are working so hard to ensure that you have a wonderful life. From giving you money for food to letting you drive their car, to going without that new outfit for your graduation so that you can pay for your college orientation. Thank them for everything, because someday they will not be around to thank.

Be proud of yourself, wherever you end up after high school.

Your life is all that you make it. High school is the first major step in discovering who we are, and it is absolutely vital that you understand this: You will probably not end up exactly where you want to be 100 percent of the time. But that is okay! Sometimes, there are bigger plans for us than we have for ourselves. Whether it's the perfect college (or it's not), or it's the perfect job (or it's not), God will not let you fall.

Enjoy every moment left — they are ending whether we like it or not.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
