When you were little and someone asked you what you wanted to be when you grow up, you probably said a ballerina, or a cowboy, or an astronaut, and the person asking you probably smiled and laughed a little. It's crazy that as children our dreams were bigger then than they are now.
As you got older your dreams probably changed a little. You probably graduated to things liked doctor, or vet, or rock star, and the person asking you probably once again smiled and laughed a little. Even as preteens, you had aspirations for great things and that should have never changed even as you got older.
Once you reached the age of young adult when you really needed to decide what you want to be when you "grew up" it's like all your dreams had fizzled out and the person asking you what you wanted to be no longer smiles and laughs when you say things that are considered unpractical.
But the truth behind it all is that it does not matter what that person, or any person thinks or feels. What you decide to be when you "grow up" is your own decision. Think back to 6 year old you, and even 12 year old you and ask yourself what you wanted to be then.
As you grew up you had people try and discourage your dreams, and you probably let them, even if you didn't realize you were doing it. Subconsciously your dreams got smaller and more realistic, per say. Life pushed at you and made you change your mind a thousand times and then a thousand time over again as you grew into a young adult.
With the weight of the world on your shoulders and the pressures of everyone in your life falling on you, you struggle to find the answers for your life. When the truth is, you don't have to. You do not have to decide what you want to be right away. You have the rest of your life to make those decisions.
You are allowed to dream and to change your mind and to change it again. Do not listen to anyone but your heart. Follow your dreams. Be a cowboy, be a ballerina, be a rock star, or be a scientist. THAT IS OKAY.
It is all okay.
