What is a “friend” … Dictionary.com defines it as “a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard”. But friendship is something so much more than just its definition. We're taught, at a young age, that friendship is a life skill and that keeping those relationships are extremely important. So when you find a person that you get attached too, you tend to find comfort in them and their advice they can give to you. But when you have had “a person” for a few years, you start to run out things to say and ways to show your appreciation. So, what do you tell your friend that you tell everything too?
From a young age, you are almost expected to make friends because of the “life skills” you earn from friendship. Unfortunately, it isn’t until you go to high school or college that you quite realize the impact a friend can have on your life. When you don’t have a friend in elementary/middle school, you are almost seen as a social outcast because no friends mean you lack social skills. But with having friends, you learn more than just how to talk to someone. You learn the ability to trust, teamwork, study skills, time management, communication, and making connections. Friendship is more than just having another person that you talk to, it's about that personal connection and the amount of trust and love you can give to one person who isn’t related to you.
Well, to literally my best friend, in particular, thank you. Thank you for always being there for me. Thank you for being my therapist, my academic advisor, my human spell check, my sister, and my person. You have been there at my lowest of lows and you have been there at my highest of highs. Also thank you for dealing with me… literally dealing with me on the daily. You deal with my references about fandoms that you have no idea about. You also deal with the fact that I have short term memory loss and I forget some of the things I tell you but you listen to me anyway. There is no one else I would want on this crazy ride called life. When anyone ever talks about us, it is always you and me… it is never just you or just me. We are practically attached at the hip and we compliment each other like yin and yang.
Now, what? I literally tell you everything and anything. You tell me everything and anything. We talk, text and, snap chat every single day. Even after all of this, we still have so much to say to each other. With you possibly transferring, this is a great way for us to find more things to talk about. My day, my classes, my time schedule, and my roommate problems will be different than yours which gives us major things to rant and vent about. But if you do transfer, I'll miss you. I'll miss our daily lunches, daily dinners, attempts at study sessions, and our time together. I'll miss walking to your dorm because you don't want to walk to mine. I'll miss our drives to bae's house and our jam out session in the car. But, most of all, I'll miss just talking to you face to face and saying "I love you" and hearing "I know" back.
But to answer the question I stated earlier in my blog, what do you tell your friend that you tell everything too, the answer is simple; Thank You. Thank you is the biggest compliment you can give someone because it shows that you acknowledge that they are doing something for you and that you appreciate the action. So to those friends that deal with us every day and give advice to every problem we have, thank you. Thank you for being there when no one else could be like you could. Thank you for not judging us even if we say extremely stupid things or completely just blank. Thank you for filling that human need of having a friend. Thank you for being you. To my person, thank you for literally every thing and I can’t wait to see where this friendship goes from here on out because there is no one I trust more trust my life and no one I would be friends with.
