Well, you're finally the big 2-1! I could not be more proud to be your best friend, or more thankful that you came into my life at a time when I needed someone like you the most. Through everything, you have shown me what true friendship looks and feels like. I know that no matter what comes our way, we'll always work it out and we'll never abandon each other.

Thank you for the countless laughs, hugs, sing-alongs and holding me while I ugly cry. You truly are a gem, and here are 21 things I want you to know as you turn 21 and we explore this crazy thing called life together.

1. You are fearfully and wonderfully made

You are perfect just the way you are, and nothing will ever change that. Stay true to you and the rest will fall into place.

2. You are absolutely adorable

Seriously, how did you get so stinkin' cute? Like, GOD. Thank you for blessing me with your face. Thank you mom for creating such a beautiful woman, inside and out.

3. You are intelligent beyond belief

Listen, I know we both have our dumb moments, but you don't give yourself enough credit for how smart you really are. Today, remember how much I admire your brain, and the fact that you actually use it.

4. You are an amazing writer

Every piece of writing I read of yours blows me away. How did you get so talented with words?

5. You are a phenomenal best friend

God knew what he was doing when he brought us together. I truly cannot imagine going through life without you by my side. Thank you for bringing me up from my lows, and standing tall with me in my highs. You're so special to me.

6. You are an amazing daughter

I see how much you do for your family, especially your mom, and I think she and I can both agree that not many daughters would go to the ends of the earth for their family. But you're you; and that's just something that comes instinctually.

7. You are not alone

As long as I'm still breathing, I promise to never let you go through any hardships by yourself. My burdens are your burdens, and your burdens are mine.

8. You are freakin' hilarious

I can't think of a time where we've hung out and I wasn't dying of laughter. You bring so much light into every person's life that you come into contact with, but especially mine.

9. You make some banging meals

Is there anything you can't do? I'm craving your grilled cheeses and I'm gonna need one ASAP.

10. You are an amazing dancer

Whether it's line dancing, ballet, and the like, you somehow make it seem so effortless and breathtaking.

11. You are a beast rapper

I so wish everyone in the world could see you rap "Slim Shady" at least once in your life, because it's honestly life altering.

12. You are a great problem solver

Whenever life throws you a curveball, you throw one right back. That's not an easy task, but you pull through every time.

13. You are a hard worker

You push yourself harder than most, and every person who has worked with you can see it, which says a lot about your character.

14. You have a beautiful heart

You are so caring and compassionate, I can't even believe someone like you exists. Especially at such a young age, you are so giving and loving.

15. You are selfless

When I don't have money for something, you pick up the tab, without a second thought. I'm having a rough day, so you buy me Del's. You don't hesitate to give the shirt off your back. You are the epitome of selfless.

16. You are free spirited

Don't let anybody clip your wings. You are the sparkles on the lake from the sun, you are the brightest star at midnight.

17. You are an amazing sister

You know your brother's agree, whether they admit it or not.

18. You are an amazing girlfriend

And I know your boyfriend agrees.

19. You are a true animal lover

Whether it's a scaly friend or a furry friend, you love them all.

20. You are so great at braids

I still can't french braid to save my life, but you do it effortlessly

21. You are my favorite person

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
